Open Face Swing-out case. MOVEMENT : When fully wound and placed on a timegrapher in the dial up position for 1 minute it shows the watch losing approximately -19 seconds per day. DIAL : Numerous hairlines on the dial. CASE : Case has been either heavily worn or polished smooth. There is an odd shape of 10k gold plate on the back. Heavy wear to crown. Early 19th Century Chinese Eyeglasses, white brass (Paktong), Folding Temples and shagreen Case. A beautiful pair of early 19th century Chinese Eyeglasses with folding temples in a shagreen. The lenses have a hand ground, round circular shape measuring 1 5/8 in diameter. Fold in half then fold flatly once again as well as have a beautiful detailing on the outer sides. The shagreen case has a beautiful Paktong, white brass trim that is nailed in. Glasses Height: 1 3/4″ Glasses Width: 5″. Glasses Depth: 3 1/4. Glasses Depth with Extended Temples: 5 3/4. Case Depth: 2 1/2. Items in great age related condition. Inside of case is slightly worn and has some tarnish on the Paktong white brass trim. Edges of lenses are slightly chipped, due to hand grinding of lenses. FOR SALE IS AN EXTREMELY EARLY MID VICTORIAN ANEROID DESK OR MANTLE BAROMETER BY EDWARD JOHN DENT THE FAMOUS ENGLISH CLOCKMAKER. THE INSTRUMENT HAS THE VERY LOW SERIAL NUMBER 6037. THE BAROMETER IS HOUSED IN A RARE UPRIGHT VERSION OF THE DENT SLOPING OAK DISPLAY CASE. This elegant example is comprised of a 4 3/4 barometer with a lacquered brass casing featuring a decorative milled edge. The silvered dial has a scale reading 28 to 31 inches of atmospheric pressure with seven weather indications around the top section. The bottom half of the dial contains a semi-circular spirit thermometer reading from 20 to 120 degrees fahrenheit. The dial has fine engraving throughout and it is signed E. Dent, Paris London followed by the very low serial number 6037 suggesting an extremely early date of manufacture almost certainly in the 2nd half of the 1840s. The pointer is blue steel and there is an internal brass recording hand adjusted by a raised central brass knob set outside the glass cover. The outer case measures 6 1/2″ in width and 6″ in height. It is made from beautifully patinated golden oak with a sloped front and glass viewing port. The hinged front still has the original lock but the key is missing. The fitted interior retains its original blue velvet lining and has a sliding brass retaining bar to secure the ring stem of the barometer in place. This piece is a rare example. I have never seen another Dent barometer in an upright style case like this one. If preferred, the case could be inverted so that the back becomes the base in which case the look would be like the usual sloping desk model except that the barometer would be upside-down. It is unrestored and in good original condition with some wear to the upper edge of the rear of the oak case and a couple of approximately 2.0cm scratches to the LHS of the glass viewing port. The barometer is in full working condition and readily passes the plastic bag pressure test. The thermometer is fully working wth no air-gaps in the red spirit. An exceptionally rare 18th Century Gold and Tortoiseshell Mounted Scissor Case, circa 1700- 1740, the front and back decorated with pique point work of flowers, laurels and butterflies, the sides with a double leaf border, the hinged lid opening to reveal a recess, a pair of later steel scissors that are present. This would have been owned by an exceptionally wealthy and probably important person of their day, this would have cost a small fortune back around the early 1700s. A piece that really should be in a museum. Without a doubt the most exquisite early item I have ever had the pleasure of owning, the damage can be seen in the photos, however, the rarity and beauty of the workmanship override this in my opinion. The lower half has damage to one edge (see last photo), some damage to just below the reverse of the hinge section missing. Small areas of gold loss. The button release works perfectly, small loss of shell by the button, and the inner frame is gold lined. This really is a museum piece.
