A Rare & Beautiful Early 20th Century Fall Front Bureau made from the very rare and much prized Ocotea Bullata (Stinkwood). This highly sort after and much prized wood by cabinet makers produces a extremely fine and smooth grain. This timber is no longer available commercially and is now a protected tree in South Africa. The evergreen tree which grows up-to 30 meters tall is indigenous to the high forests of South Africa. The beautiful panelled fall front cover lifts to reveal a fitted interior of miniature drawers, pigeon holes and a writing surface. The base fitted with two shaped drawers with brass plate handles and escutcheons. All raised upon cabriole legs with ball and claw feet. Made to wonderful proportions it will stand proud in any room. SUPERB RARE EARLY 19th CENTURY CYLINDRICAL ESTATE BUREAU WITH HIDDEN PISTOL DRAWERS AND HAS BEEN CONSTRUCTED FROM HAREWOOD & MAHOGANY AND IT MUST BE SAID IS A SUPER PIECE OF FURNITURE. This beautiful bureau has a host of varying size drawers including two pistol drawers and has a wonderful rich patina and colour and measures, 136 cm in height, by 113 cm in length and 58 cm deep and has some lovely detailing, it looks superb and will add character to any room in your home, no matter what the style. It shows only age related wear / character and some very tiny areas of loss to its veneer but should be classed as normal age related use for a piece of its age and type and is minimal and is ready for its new owner to enjoy. All in all a fine piece of furniture made in a time when quality mattered with the cylindrical top opening and closing smoothly, the original Georgian key and beautifully detailed portrait profiled escutcheon just being a few of this pieces wonderful details and a sign of real quality. Ideally for collection in person or via your own trusted courier, we tend to recommend “PROOVIA” as they are in and out of Devon regularly and are not just affordable but pretty reliable as well. Rare , Solid Elm throughout , Antique , Attractive and Characterful Knee-Hole Fall-front Bureau. Elm pieces of this age are uncommon. Constructed from well figured elm planks with single planking to either side and top. Having a good colour and well cared for patina. Country/ Vernacular in style. Thought to be late 18th early 19th C. The fall-front supported by 2 sliding support rails revealing a fitted interior with 2 drawers and pigeon-holes. Central draw with brass handles, associated brass escutcheons. Door fronted cupboards to either side of the knee-hole each with a midway shelf. Some slight historic warping to drawer and fall front section , but in sellers opinion adds to the charm and character. No key to locks , (fall front , drawer and cupboards not lockable). Some historic and extinct furniture beetle activity to lining of the drawer and treated as a precautionary measure. Small imperfections commensurate with age. Please scrutinise the photos as these form a good part of the description. Please note that I have no facilities to wrap / pack prior to dispatch.
