Antique Early Staffordshire Figure Medieval King Arthur Rare Vintage Ceramic
Posted by admin On November 12, 2024
Like many pieces from this time there are flaws – one chip as seen to the underneath of the base, a repair between his head and neck which has been done well, and a line in his cloak as well as wear to the pearl like coating. There isn’t much I can find about this piece – he may well be King Arthur and this particular style of figurine is extremely rare.

This shop is to help me increase my knowledge and help homeless pre-loved vintage items find a new forever home and survive a bit longer to be appreciated by future generations. I’m not here to rip people off or make a quick buck so if you have a problem I will always try to sort it out quickly and fairly so we can part as friends and you’ll feel safe to come back. Please read the description and look at the photos as I try to document all features and any damage. Terms like “excellent” or “very good condition” are subjective but I mean for their age and consistent with normal use. For example, it is unreasonable to expect a 1930s household item to be immaculate but if it is I will describe it as immaculate or mint. In the unlikely event that on receipt of your item, you are not completely satisfied please do not hesitate to contact me so that we can resolve the problem. My promise to you. I list items as accurately as I can; if I can see an item isn’t perfect I’ll say so in the description. Please bear in mind, my items are vintage and so will show some wear typical of their age. For example having movement scratches or scuffs underneath. I research every piece using books, catalogues and the internet but I’m not an expert on everything by any means and collecting vintage glass is my hobby not my profession, so if you think I have misdescribed something please let me know so I can learn from you and change the listing. All fragile items will be sent in sturdy boxes wrapped in bubble wrap paddled out with void paper. I know how disappointing it is when an item arrives broken. Please get in touch if you have a problem and take some photos of the damage. More expensive items are sent tracked and insured for my protection and yours. This is a non smoking home – but not pet free. Random dogs may find their way into photos and these are not included in the sale!

For the Decorative, Rare & Unusual. Those who find beautiful meanings in beautiful things are the cultivated. For these there is hope. An Early 20thC Cased Ventriloquists Dummy By Arthur Quisto. Origin: English Period: Early 20th Century Provenance: Unknown Date: c. 1920-35 Height: 36 inches Width (Shoulder to Shoulder): 12 inches (all approx). The period dummy of high build quality, in a taffeta and cotton white shirt with thick wool and nylon peat coat, the head with a thick shock of ginger curly hair under a navy school cap and the body constructed of a combination of paper maché, and plaster composition parts with lower limbs with fabric attachments with the wooden carved hands painted in a very light skin colour, the legs with royal blue woolen leggings and black painted plaster shoes. The face is also in a light skin color with reddened cheeks; the lips are painted red, the eyebrows and eyelashes black, the glass eyes blue with the whole being presented in the original quality leather carrying suitcase, in keeping with the period. In good overall original condition, there is only some small flaking to the paint on the raised parts of the face like the eyebrows, cheeks and nose. The costume for the dummy is of the highest tailored quality, and in excellent condition. The two buttons on the jacket are original as is the bow tie. There is one tape repair to one of the feet. Both the mouth and eye mechanisms are in good working order. There is a label for Magical Mart, 79 York st, London W1 on the underside of the dummy head. Burgess of Wandsowrth, London SW18. There are further labels for Cunard White Star Line to New York and other baggage labels. Arthur Quisto lived from 1882 to 1960. His real name was Edwin Simms. He was known primarily for his Punch & Judy Shows, but Quisto also built figures for Tom Coram and Arthur Prince. He used pneumatic devices and was the first to use electromagnetic devices to animate his figures. The uncanny nature of ventriloquists dummies has enthralled and spooked people for decades, and they continue to feature in horror films to this day. The idea of the ghost in the inanimate object is not a new one, Freud has written at length on the subject in his discussions on the uncanny, and ghost stories have featured dolls and portraits coming to life for centuries. A hugely entertaining vent figure of large size and with an incredibly jolly, albeit slightly neurotic, disposition. All pieces listed by Doe & Hope are of the finest quality. However, any imperfection, which is deemed to be more than just natural ageing, will be duly described above. B: The P&P stated applies to U. And remember, Antiques are Green!
