The small mat is comprised of rich sepia brown colors of its jagged interior border, resembling the diagonal configurations also found in antique Navajo’eye dazzler’ hand woven, wool rugs produced in the same period as this magnificent, diminutive gem and superb example of early 20th century period Navajo wool rug weaving. The sepia brown jagged edges are interwoven with creamy white. The center of the rug features an orange red square, upon which is woven the Navajo sacred tribal symbol of the’Whirling Logs’ realized in deep mint green and creamy white. Royal House Antiques is delighted to offer for sale. Stunning and exceptionally rare pair of original hand carved in Black Forest wood very large Bear armchairs. A collectable and signature pair of art furniture armchairs. This pair are exceptional, they date to the early 20. Century circa 1920, they are hand carved from solid slabs of black forest wood timber. Black forest wood gets its name from the darkness of the timber, this is due to the trees being naturally grown very closely, they are very tall meaning no light reaches the timber giving it this wonderful colour. This pair came to me in need of some sympathetic conservation, they had been coated is some kind of thick sticky dark wax which hid the natural colour and timber patina, we have painstakingly removed this substance to reveal the natural colour of the wood and grain. We have then very lightly wax sealed, and hand polished them from top to bottom, the finished result is pretty much the best-looking pair of these chairs you will ever find. They have old repairs here and there, nothing you would not expect from 100+ year old chairs that are this large and heavy. There are no losses or structural issues whatsoever they are a very fine example. Seat height:- 43cm. In Europe Black Forest carvings (wares) became a symbol of luxury and wealth. The finest pieces of Black Forest carving were often found in Royal collection and elite collectors homes (usually Victorian world travellers). There was a high demand for these carving especially depicting American Wildlife. Here are some of the American animals that were highly sought after: Bears, Stags, Eagles, Boars and Dogs. RARE EARLY 20TH CENTURY ANTIQUE ART NOUVEAU’PEACOCK’ DESIGN, HAND. Early 20th century antique Art Nouveau hand-blown, decorated art glass. 9″ Height x 3 ½” Width x 1 Rim Diameter. A true period, authentic, original Art Nouveau piece of hand-blown, tooled art glass, with pontil mark (scar) on the base plate. It features plastic, very physical, variegated, raised surfaces, with flowing fern-like, organic forms, that at once resemble and remind one of flowing seaweed in the underwater currents of the sea or the leaves of ferns, softly moving in the breeze underneath a forest of tall, protective conifers. The vase has a natural, hand-blown, asymmetrical organic form, that impresses with its nearly frozen liquid state. This is an extraordinary piece of antique, period Art Nouveau glass that is not interrupted by hairline cracks, flea-bites, abrasions or scuffs on the edge of its fluted top or on its exterior sidewalls. It has magnificent, semi-transparent to semi-opaque, translucent surfaces, which showcase putty white, olive and creams set against a gorgeous semi-transparent, rich cobalt blue of the glass body of the vase. This is one killer piece of Art Nouveau period, antique glass. Not a more recent facsimile but the real deal. Found on the North Shore of Massachusetts and estate fresh. It was previously covered with dust and sediment and only very carefully cleaned with baby shampoo and tepid water and then gently dried with a soft cotton towel. Rare Early 20th Century Oxford University Metal Bound Wooden Expedition Crate. The crate was originally used by Oxford University Exploration Club, mountaineering Expedition To The Andes Of Peru, and dates to around 1905 – 1910. Incredibly it survived and it still in usable condition. The crate was produced by Venesta Boxes and Barrels of a London. Venesta was founded in 1898 and the first company to import plywood. The company gained special notoriety after they supplied the crates for two historic Artic expeditions. The first was Ernest Shackletons Nimrod expedition, and second Captain Robert Falcon Scotts ill fated Terra Nova expedition. The history of this crate is very significant and its ties to both Oxford University and the company Venesta make a must for any collector.
