This is a rare early 20th century (Taisho Era) Japanese Kutani sleeping cat called Nemuri Neko that measures 7.5 inches long by 2.75 inches high by 4.38 inches wide. It was entirely hand painted in rich black and gold detail and depicts a cat in peaceful slumber with pink paws and pink ears wearing a persimmon colored collar featuring a gold bell on each side. It weighs 1 pounds 4 ounces before packaging and it has a small kiln vent hole. This chair is in very good condition, the double-sided inset enamel sign is in excellent condition and reads: Restu washes white overnight, by William Gossage & Sons Ltd. It also has its original manufacturers plate which reads: A Janes & Sons, Chair manufacturers, West End Road, High Wycombe. The Elm Frame & Seat are in very solid condition but the chair does have some old, treated worm holes. Please see all photos.
