For sale is this incredible and absolutely untouched, original and completely authentic, Proctor and Gamble of Cincinnati, Ohio, early 20th century vintage Lenox Soap wood crate advertising box, featuring black ink stamped sidewall graphic iconography on two long and one short sidewalls, early nailed corners and a wood plank floor. The black ink is original and still largely saturated and opaque. The wood surfaces haven’t been lacquered or varnished and have a matte, dry finish. There’s only the slightest bit of wood loss along the top right corner of one of the long wooden sidewalls. This amounts to what would be best described as a sliver of wood and not a chunk. The wood has naturally aged patina and its wood cover was pried off with a crow bar. The damage to the long sidewall most likely occurred when the wood box crate was initially opened. One long sidewall has great graphics with a hand holding a bar of Lenox soap. The short sidewall has the Proctor and Gamble crescent moon hallmark stamped on it. Offered for your review and consideration is this utterly fantastic, simply amazing and in incredibly well-preserved overall, near originally constituted antique condition, late 19th to early 20th century Ame ri can folk art antique colored wool, handmade hooked rug, featuring a bucolic, near dream-like New England landscape, seemingly bursting with color and complete with a northern New England covered wooden bridge, white clapboard church, stone walls, gnarled old trees, flowers and several figures, as well as a dog. The period rug has no foul smells and doesn’t suffer loss to any of its edges, its black framed borders or even more importantly, in the pictorial field. The area above the wood covered bridge consists of the foliage of trees swirling around like tumultuous wind currents or resembling the rings of receding tidal pools. The maker of the hooked rug seemed particularly focused on enthusiastically portraying the natural bounty, overwhelming beauty and wealth of New England. A veritable Ame ri can antique folk art masterwork. Lush, bright and with gorgeous, brilliant, vivid colors, this wonderful textile art treasure appears to have been rolled up and protected for the more than 100-130 years since it was initially realized. It is nearly, if not, as it was originally constituted. It is a rare feat indeed for a work of textile art to not have the kind of wear we’re accustomed to seeing, when a rug such as this is placed on the floor and walked upon. The presence of dogs, heeled shoes, dirt, sand, wine and food all would have contributed to the hooked rug’s certain depreciation and ultimate demise over time. This was not the case with this incredible work of masterful rug making. It appears never to have been used as a rug or was placed on the floor of a home without pets or children, and away from direct sunlight, since it has virtually no wear or color depreciation at all to speak of. As clean as anyone could ever expect an antique hooked rug to still be. An Ame ri can folk art masterwork in nearly immaculate, pristine condition. It won’t disappoint. This is a classic sword of the Moro people of the southern Philippines and of the Sulu Sea area called a kris. The classic Moro kris is based heavily on the Indonesian keris but is distinctlylarger and made purposefully for fighting. The kris has always been the most famous of all Moro weapons and there are a wide set of variation of blade types, handle forms, and materials. Generally all kris blades are wide at the base, double-edged, and can be waved, half-waved halfstraight, or straight in which case they were more practical in combat. Older kris had fewerwaves and the waves were deeper and wider. Over time the waves became shallower, tighter, and more numerous and therefore required greater skill to prevent the blade bouncing off or being stuck in an enemys body. One of the additional ways in which origins are identified are through the design of the elephant head trunk and cavity of the ganja. The Maranao form has an elongated trunk while the mouth cavity is narrow and the lower jaw runs parallel to the guard. While Sulu and Maguindanaoforms have a concave cavity beneath the lower jaw, the Maranao form does not and instead has a protrusion that juts out from beneath it (Cato 1996). This example in the Schmiedt Collection is a fine example of a classic Maranao style fighting kris with a finely crafted silver horsehoof pommel. The plain tubular handle with carved twine interspersed with silver bands. The pommel is multifaceted silver horsehoof form found in Sulu and Mindanao, though in this casethe overall sword may be Maranao judging by the form ganja on the blade. The 17 luk blade is finely crafted with angular waves near the base and sharply crested waves throughout, both anindication of early 20th century production. The blade also displays lamellar construction found on higher quality Moro blades. Late 19th to Early 20th century. For sale is a spectacular late 19th century to early 20th century American tramp art miniature two over three chest of drawers with a mirrored back splash. This piece comes to us from a private estate. This piece is constructed of cigar boxes for the drawers. It has a two board backing which is all original to the piece. The construction is fine and is a wonderful example of early American tramp art work. When the drawers are pulled out you can see various stenciled markings from the different brands of cigar boxes used to construct this piece. Ce in over all good condition. We do notice some areas of loss and wear which is all age appropriate. The surface patina is all original. There’s find oxidation to the wood and the piece is in over all sturdy condition.
