Very Rare Early 19th C Gilt Brass Japanese Bracket Or Table Clock Makura Dokei
A very fine and rare early 19. Century gilt brass Japanese bracket / table clock or Makura Dokei in need of restoration. The plated lantern type spring driven movement with balance wheel and verge escapement, the balance with silk suspension. Originally with datework and dial with adjustable hour chapters. Gilt brass case/frame beautifully engraved with foliate sprays and devices. Beautifully turned frame pillars. Rosewood base with convex friese in which is the key drawer. The mechanism is complete but lacks the original dial and datewheels. The striking train is missing only the gathering pallet for the countwheel. A very fine and rare clock but in need of a little careful restoration. Please see images below. At the top of the images below I have included a short video to give you an idea of how the strike mechanism runs. Please allow the video to load before playing it through. In very good but incomplete condition and as seen. The whole clock retains its original gilding in exceptionally good condition. The movement is in very good condition but missing the dial, hand, date wheels and gathering. Pallet for the count wheel. The wheel trains run smoothly when pressure is applied and the escapoement operates and the clock strikes (see videos). The bell rings perfectly with a silvery tone. Overall height of clock to top of bell finial and including wooden base 11.2 cm (4 3/8). Overall height of clock to top of finial but excluding wooden base 9.8 cm (3 7/8). Top and bottom plates 8.7 cm x 5 cm (3 7/16 x 2). Height frame excluding finials 6.6 cm (2 5/8). Packed weight 1.26 kg. Size 30 X 23 X 14 cm. Please see item description. We offer this rare and stylish antique pair Italian maiolica tiles decorated with entertainers and dating from the early 19th century. The rectangular stoneware tiles are thickly potted and each has a scene with figures entertaining painted in coloured enamels on a white cracquel ground. One has a figure performing a hand stand while supporting two seated figures on a plank supported on his feet while the other tile is painted with an act involving a blind folded girl by a table with various shaped stones. The tiles are not marked. Condition The tiles are offered in excellent condition considering their age. There is no restoration and while having some glaze chipping around the edges this does not impact on the wonderful design of these stylish tiles. Being offered For sale this Rare Antique White Metal Pomander or tea ball with No reserve. I originally thought this was a Tea ball but the open fret work is too open to keep tea leaves in. I showed it to a silver specialist friend who said it looks like a pomander due to its size and the double chains it is hung on. The ball is crafted in a white metal and is beautifully pierced i think by hand as there is some irregularities in the piercing work. It also has the number 32 stamped inside the lid i don’t know what this is for but worth mentioning. The lid is hinged and works well i think these are the original chains there are a few dints but this is to be expected with age. The ball measures 13.5cm around the middle and weighs 21.6 gms. Please study photos in depth as these are a part of the description. All measurements are approximate all stones have been measured with a Moe diamond weight calculator and a diamond spread sheet. A rare early 19. Century antique Biedermeier satin birch sofa – Scandinavian c. Believed to be of Scandinavian origin and dating to the early 1800s. With beautiful classical inlaid scenes centrally and on the side supports, and finished in a quality contemporary charcoal grey upholstery. Arm rest have lift-lid tops, concealing a useful storage area of approximately 60cm deep x 12cm wide x 7cm high in each. A fine quality and rare example in excellent condition.
