RARE EARLY MODEL 19th CENTURY BIRAMS PATENT ANENOMETER AIR METER BAIRD GLASGOW
An early model Anenometer or wind meter signed, on the dial’BAIRD & SON GLASGOW 158B’ & signed on the cross bar BIRAMS PATENT. I believe this was the first of the Birams Patent Anemometers produced around 1848. These first examples were constructed with black painted copper vanes with copper wire holding each vane to each other, whereas the later ones were constructed with aluminium vanes. The dial is small with two working recording dials – please note: minor chip to glass. This essential instrument was used as a safety guide to read ventilation in mines during the 19th Century – it was simply held up via the loop at the top. Original lacquer is stained in places. Diameter: 16.5 cms. Great example for a mining collection. The item “RARE EARLY MODEL 19th CENTURY BIRAMS PATENT ANENOMETER AIR METER BAIRD GLASGOW” is in sale since Wednesday, November 11, 2020. RARE EARLY-MID 19TH CENTURY AME RI CAN ANTIQUE PRIMITIVE 10 PINE BENTWOOD PANTRY BOX/LID, in ORIGINAL DRY RED, POSSIBLY FIRST GENERATION PAINTED EXTERIOR FINISH, with SINGLE BOARD PINE FLOOR & ORIGINAL LID. [Found in southern New Hampshire]. Early-mid 19th century Ame ri can antique primitive painted wooden pantry boxes & decorative accessories. 10″ Width x 6″ Height. In absolutely extraordinary original dry, minimally reduced red paint on the lid, side straps and pantry box’s body. The lid’s wooden side strap is without any appreciable damage and the vertical, overlapping clasp is nailed tightly and hasn’t split or fractured. The box’s sidewalls are made of a single piece of shaved wood, that’s overlapped at a vertical seam and nailed firmly together. The junction also isn’t waffled, compromised, splintered or suffering from any broken metal fasteners. The wood plank, single board wood floor is unbroken and made of one piece of steamed, bentwood pine, as are the lid and body’s sidewalls. The real action though, isn’t with this wonderful early to mid 19th century Ame ri can antique primitive red painted pantry box’s large size, measuring a full ten inches in overall width or its really extraordinary condition, but with its possibly original, first generation, dry red painted exterior finish, making this a rather rare and coveted early to mid 19th century Ame ri can painted primitive antique pine pantry box and New England cultural artifact. They simply don’t come in much better condition than this. Good to Very Good overall antique condition. RARE EARLY to MID 19TH CENTURY AME RI CAN ANTIQUE SIGNED GOODWIN & WEBSTER OVOID, HANDLED, SALT-GLAZED STONEWARE JUG, with COBALT BLUE STAMPING on FRONT. SIDEWALL & COBALT BLUE SLIP GLAZE. On HANDLE TOP & BASE, WHEEL-THROWN. HANDLE & WIRE CUT BASE. Early to mid-19th century Ame ri can antique blue slip decorated salt-glazed stoneware jugs & crocks. 10 ½” Height x 6 ½” Width (Body). X 4 Base Width. This is a rare and very scarce early Ame ri can stoneware jug from a Boston, MA maker and early mercantile entity, especially in this kind of very well-preserved overall condition and especially with this coveted, early ovoid, antique form. There are literally no noticeable flea-bites or hairline cracks, bruises or glaze flakes on this outstanding piece of early Ame ric ana. There’s only a very small, slight bit of ceramic loss, right along the lower margin of the wire cut base, where the jug was removed from the throwing wheel. The salt glazed exterior now has a time-tempered, variegated range of color, involving putty white, pewter gray, yellow ochre and flashes of burnt sienna. The handle’s top and base have finger painted cobalt blue slip glaze ringed decoration. This is a magnificent, early Ame ri can, antique salt-glazed, ovoid stoneware handled jug, with Boston, Massachusetts provenance. Unabused, it largely escaped the ravages, trials and tribulations of time. The real, unbastardized and undisturbed deal. Simply gorgeous and in nearly originally constituted condition. If it wasn’t for the very small, slight bit of loss along the lower margin of the cut base plate, I could say with confidence that it was even in fact’museum-quality. Only a simple, small flea-bite and nearly unnoticeable amount of ceramic loss along its base, prevents me from making this unusual claim, especially for a piece of antique Ame ri can stoneware, that’s now between 170 to 190 years old. Very Good-Excellent overall antique condition. The item “RARE EARLY 19TH C ANTIQUE GOODWIN & WEBSTER, BOSTON MA OVOID STONEWARE STMPD JUG” is in sale since Monday, September 14, 2020. This item is in the category “Antiques\Decorative Arts\Ceramics & Porcelain\Jugs”. The seller is “modsanctuary” and is located in Milford, New Hampshire. This item can be shipped worldwide.
