There’s a very small & one moderately sized flea-bite on the upper rolled edge of the redware jar. No attempt has been made to professionally remedy. Recently discovered in an early southern New Hampshire farmhouse along with two other early 19th century primitive redware ceramic vessels. All three early Ame ri can artifacts were only gently washed with tepid water & gently dried to remove years of built up silt & dust. They otherwise remain exactly as they were found when they were removed from the home, without repairs or other interventions. They haven’t been’worked on. Rare Antique Early 19th Century Child’s Miniature Treen Knitting Sheath, Initialled’M. These sewing tools were found mainly in rural areas in Wales, Yorkshire, Cumbria, Scotland and Northumberland, the majority were made in wood; but other materials included leather, metal, bone, straw and quills. They were used by placing the end of the stick against the right hand hip, tucked into the waistband, or belt, at an angle, so a double ended knitting needle could be placed in the hole, at the opposite end, which was about 1 deep. This secured the knitting needle, and freed the right hand so the knitter could knit at speed, also whilst standing or walking. This charming example is rare in its miniature child size and is engraved with the child’s initials. Condition is good, commensurate with and use. Lovely patina to the wood! NEOPOLITAN’N’ MARK on BASEPLATE. ESTABLISHED in NAPLES, IT A LY in 1743. Late 18th to early 19th century Capodimonte, It a ly antique hand painted, figurative flat-walled porcelain ceramic mustard jars & other decorative ceramic vessels. 4 ½ ” Height (without inserted cork stopper) x 4 ¾” Height (with inserted cork stopper) x 3″ Width x 3″ Depth. Weight: 8.8 oz. Offered for your review and consideration is this particularly early, as indicated by the blue ink stamped Capodimonte Crown over Neopolitan’N’ mark, found on the decorated porcelain ceramic jar’s baseplate. This clear maker’s mark identifies the porcelain mustard or condiment, flat-sidewall ceramic jar, as dating from as early the late 18th to early 19th century, with its production being as early as 1771 to as late as possibly 1834. The jar consists of four slab-constructed porcelain ceramic sidewalls, joined together at their corners with a square ceramic base, sloped shoulders and tubular neck. There are instances of gold gilt, hand painted embellishment. The outside walls of the vessel feature bas-relief, raised figuration, or jardinaire, with multiple classical figures in bucolic landscapes. Each different figurative side vignette or miniature painting is entirely hand painted and done so with great skill. The jar still has its original cork stopper and remains as it was found in the estate it was taken from. Very rare and a truly outstanding piece with no noticeable condition issues.
