BEAUTIFUL OAK SIDE CHAIR. WILLIAM & MARY PERIOD. About 16″ x 12″ x 31 1/2. 14 1/2 height to seat. Wonderful solid oak side chair. Probably Quebec, Canada, origin. “Picture frame” back with cyma curve borders. Pegged mortise and tenon joint construction. Flat, single plank seat with molded edges, slightly trapezoidal shape, secured with small wooden pegs. Pegged mortise and tenon construction. Block and turned legs and stretcher with “H” form lower stretcher. Full length feet, not cut down. At first, I thought the “picture frame” back was designed to hold some kind of upholstered pad. But that is not correct. It was designed to be open, as indicated by the curved upper and lower borders, fitting flush to the back, and intended to be visible from the front. A similar example is in the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum in Manhattan, New York City (visible through wikimedia commons), and another with the non-profit organization Furnishing New France. From a local smoke free house is this Rare early antique mourning pin or brooch. It is made of 18K yellow gold, contains woven hair with a monogram center under glass, and is engraved on the back, F. It is not dated but is similar to other early examples we found dating from the later 1700’s to the early 1800’s. The pin measures about 1 1/4 inches high and about 1 inches wide. The pin was tested to be at least 18K and weighs about 8.72 grams or 5.6 pennyweight. It is in excellent condition. See photos as they are part of the description. Late 18th early 19th Century Chinese Tangram Carved Puzzle Box with Puzzles, i would estimate a date of circa 1800. Making this rare puzzle box over 200 years old. This rare puzzle box has a sliding lid carved with five figures and pagodas with flowering shrubs, some figures are. Walking across the landscape with a gentleman inside a pagoda waiting for them, all this is in a `bamboo` frame. To the other side of this amazing Tangram Box you will see a beautifully carved Lotus flower surrounded by wonderful foliage, There are carved pagoda’s and shurbs around the sides of the box, on sliding the top off you will see this still retains all of the original beautifully carved Tangram puzzles pieces , six in total, the quality of the craftsmanship is superb, this would have once belonged to a very wealthy 18th Century Gentleman many years ago when times were so very different, if this box could talk i can just imagine what fascinating stories it could tell, this Tangram Puzzle box is so very tactile and once held it has the most wonderful feel.
