BEAUTIFUL OAK SIDE CHAIR. WILLIAM & MARY PERIOD. About 16″ x 12″ x 31 1/2. 14 1/2 height to seat. Wonderful solid oak side chair. Probably Quebec, Canada, origin. “Picture frame” back with cyma curve borders. Pegged mortise and tenon joint construction. Flat, single plank seat with molded edges, slightly trapezoidal shape, secured with small wooden pegs. Pegged mortise and tenon construction. Block and turned legs and stretcher with “H” form lower stretcher. Full length feet, not cut down. At first, I thought the “picture frame” back was designed to hold some kind of upholstered pad. But that is not correct. It was designed to be open, as indicated by the curved upper and lower borders, fitting flush to the back, and intended to be visible from the front. A similar example is in the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum in Manhattan, New York City (visible through wikimedia commons), and another with the non-profit organization Furnishing New France. Strong and sturdy, all joints tight. Fabulous old oak patina. A RARE EXAMPLE OF EARLY EIGHTEENTH CENTURY NORTH AMERICAN FURNITURE. From a local smoke free house is this Rare early antique mourning pin or brooch. It is made of 18K yellow gold, contains woven hair with a monogram center under glass, and is engraved on the back, F. It is not dated but is similar to other early examples we found dating from the later 1700’s to the early 1800’s. The pin measures about 1 1/4 inches high and about 1 inches wide. The pin was tested to be at least 18K and weighs about 8.72 grams or 5.6 pennyweight. It is in excellent condition. See photos as they are part of the description. FINE QUALITY RARE 18TH EARLY 19TH CENTURY CHINESE CARVED SLIDING TOP TANGRAM PUZZLE BOX WITH PUZZLES. This is a very Rare Breath Taking. Late 18th early 19th Century Chinese Tangram Carved Puzzle Box with Puzzles, i would estimate a date of circa 1800. Making this rare puzzle box over 200 years old. This rare puzzle box has a sliding lid carved with five figures and pagodas with flowering shrubs, some figures are. Walking across the landscape with a gentleman inside a pagoda waiting for them, all this is in a `bamboo` frame. To the other side of this amazing Tangram Box you will see a beautifully carved Lotus flower surrounded by wonderful foliage, There are carved pagoda’s and shurbs around the sides of the box, on sliding the top off you will see this still retains all of the original beautifully carved Tangram puzzles pieces , six in total, the quality of the craftsmanship is superb, this would have once belonged to a very wealthy 18th Century Gentleman many years ago when times were so very different, if this box could talk i can just imagine what fascinating stories it could tell, this Tangram Puzzle box is so very tactile and once held it has the most wonderful feel. This will add something very special to any collection, my photos dont do it justice. The condition is nice with no actual damage to the carving, this is breath taking , this is such a rare object. 6 cm width by 6 cm depth. Beautiful and very to rare to find antique Meissen coffee or teapot dating to 1740. Wonderful piece with hand painted port scenes all around body and cover. Trimmed in pretty yellow gold. Fancy modelled spout and handle. Measures 8.5 inches high x 7 inches wide from spout to handle. First quality blue crossed swords mark on bottom. Only see minor use and wear loss on the pot and lid flower petals have chips & missing green stem. Here is a rare and early Greek Islands embroidery from the 17th Century or early 18th C. Colors are very well preserved and the embroidery is in fairly good condition. The tassels were probably added in the 19th Century to replace the original tassels. This may have been a scarf. Dimensions: It measures 14 x 32 inches. Circa: Late Late 1600s / Early 1700s. To the other side of this amazing Tangram Box you will see another carved rural scene with three figures and pagodas with flowering shrubs, There are carved dragons around three sides of the box and the forth side has the most beautiful folaige, on sliding the top off you will see this still retains some of the beautifully carved Tangram puzzles pieces, the quality of the craftsmanship is superb, this would have once belonged to a very wealthy 18th Century Gentleman many years ago when times were so very different, if this box could talk i can just imagine what fascinating stories it could tell, this Tangram Puzzle box is so very tactile and once held it has the most wonderful feel. This will add something very special to any collection, my photos dont do it justice. The condition is nice with no actual damage to the carving, with just a couple of chips to the inside of the slide top and one puzzle piece’s seems firm inside, i wont try to remove it, i will leave that for the new owners to do, this is breath taking , this is such a rare object. RARE ANTIQUE CEYLONESE SILVER BETEL NUT LIME BOX OR KILLOTAYA. 18th EARLY 19th
Antique Ceylonese silver and copper betel nut lime box or KILLOTAYA. Of flattened round form with attached chain this was made to carry lime or chunam for mixing with sliced Areca nut for betel chewing. Hinged like a pocket watch. Superb quality and detail with silver hinges, surrounds and chain with silver inlaid copper to front and back. Dating from late 18th century and missing its little silver spike or spoon on end of chain. (See similar example The Clive Collection at Powis Castle). Most killotayas were made of brass or copper. This example with fine silver mounts was probably a special commission from a wealthy Kandy dignitary. Size – 4 cms. Weight – 22 gms.
