Rare find from estate sale! This is a beautiful porcelain teacup and saucer made by Flight, Barr & Barr between 1813 and 1840 – but most probably circa 1815, which was the Regency era. Peach ground gold gilt leaf pattern. This peach ground color is rare as it was very difficult to produce; if the kiln temperature was only slightly too high or too low, the color would come out an ugly brown and the items would have to be thrown away. Given that kilns were fired on coal fires, you can imagine how hard it was to achieve this beautiful color and it would only have been done for the most exclusive sets. The pinched handle is typical for Flight and Barr. Meaning free from cracks chips repairs or crazing. No signs of use for example (utensil marks, scuffs, stains, gold loss or pattern wear). Which leads me to believe this set was for display only as part of a collection. Referenced in Geoffrey A. Encyclopedia of British Pottery and Porcelain Marks. /Royal Porcelain Works Worcester/Manufactures to their Majesties and the Prince Regent mark, impressed crown and. Rare Antique Pair of Tole Peinte Garniture Bouquet Urns Early 1800s. This is an extremely rare garniture from the early 1800s either French or Italian. Initially crafted for the flower market stalls. Placed on the back of the shelf and with fresh flowers placed in front the flowered urns gave the illusion of the shelves being lush with flowers. Either a pair on top of the mantle or on the ground flanking the opening of the fireplace. On a table one could protect a candle from drafts. The ones from the market would not have survived the conditions. The ones found in pairs today were pairs bought for the home. They are extremely rare. As far as researching pairs most of the examples I can find are far more simple in the design and execution. Plus a tad smaller in size. As far as Im concerned this pair is worthy of being part of a decorative arts collection in a museum. They measure up to almost 24. The widest point is between 10-11 inches. The paint for the age is very stable and not flaking. The detail work is amazing. One of the central posts has a break. This is not uncommon. It is still very stable. There is also an early repair on one of the urns. Please see all photos. What an incredible gift for you or a loved one this Holiday Season!!
