A beautifully ancient part of a Roman gold earring , dating circa II – III century A. This wonderful gold earring displays the great craftsmanship of the ancient goldsmith who created it. The terminal is in the form of a shield with five small circles and the details are remarkable for such a small piece. The earring is formed of five strands of twisted gold wire, two of which are twisted filigree and the other being plain twisted wire. The terminal has chased decoration as well as applied coiled and filigree wire. Condition: Excellent, beautifully preserved, with no restorations.
