THIS WONDERFUL PAIR OF BUTTONS ARE MADE TO PAY TRIBUTE TO THE MAIN CHARACTERS ROSINA AND BELVILLE IN THE 1782 COMIC OPERA BY WILLIAM SHIELD. MOST LIKELY MADE FOR THE TOURIST TRADE ON THE PALAIS ROYAL IN PARIS, FRANCE. ITS VERY RARE TO FIND THESE BUTTONS STILL AS A PAIR, OR NOT CONVERTED INTO BROOCHES BECAUSE OF THEIR LARGE SIZE. THEY COME FROM A LARGE COLLECTION OWNED BY MY GREAT, GREAT AUNT, AND SHE WAS A VERY SERIOUS COLLECTOR IN THE 1930’S & 40’S. SHE ONLY COLLECTED THE MOST RARE AND UNUSUAL EXAMPLES FOR HER COLLECTION. IT WAS LOT # 412. AND READS: PAIR FRENCH ENAMELED BUTTONS EARLY XIX CENTURY. OVAL SHAPE WITH PAINTED PORTRAIT INSCRIBED ” ROSINA AND BELVILLE”. THE PORTRAITS ARE CHARMING, WITH AN ALMOST FOLK ART QUALITY TO THEM. THEY COME HOUSED IN THIS LOVELY FRENCH VICTORIAN ERA LEATHER PRESENTATION CASE, THAT MY GREAT AUNT HAD CUSTOM FITTED JUST TO DISPLAY THEM. THE TOP INSIDE BACK IS ORIGINAL FROM THE 1860’S, THE FITTED BOTTOM MOST LIKELY DONE IN THE 1940’S. THEY ARE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION, WITH JUST THE NORMAL WEAR FROM AGE. THERE IS THE EXPECTED LIGHT CRAZING TO THE ENAMEL, AND THE BRASS FRAMES TARNISHED FROM AGE. THERE ARE CRIMPS TO THE BRASS FRAMES, AS SEEN IN THE PHOTOS, BUT THIS IS NOT DAMAGE, JUST WHAT NATURALLY OCCURS WHEN THE FRAMES ARE FITTED AROUND THE BUTTON BACKS. THE BACKS OF THE BUTTONS HAVE THE EXPECTED AGE RELATED DISCOLORATION AS SEEN IN THE PHOTO. THEY ARE JUST OVER 2 INCHES HIGH X 1 1 / 2 INCHES WIDE. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE PARKE BERNET CATALOG PICTURED IS JUST TO SUBSTANCIATE PROVENANCE AND IS NOT INCLUDED WITH THE SALE. JUST THE CUT OUT LISTING FOR THE BUTTONS. A WONDERFUL PAIR OF MUSEUM QUALITY BUTTONS. ALSO INCLUDED WITH THIS SALE AS A BONUS ITEM, IS THIS RARE 18TH CENTURY, CIRCA 1760 – 80, FRENCH REVERSE PAINTED GLASS BUTTON. THIS BUTTON IS VERY COMPLEX IN THAT IT HAS SEVERAL DIFFERENT LAYERS THAT MAKE IT UP. THE FIRST LAYER IS EMBOSSED SILVER FOIL, THE NEXT LAYER IS DELICATELY CUT OUT BLUE SILK THAT ALMOST RESEMBLES LITTLE CROSSES, AND THEN FINALLY A REVERSE PAINTED GLASS SCENE THAT SUGGESTS THAT IT MY BE A MOURNING BUTTON FROM THE SUBJECT MATTER. IT APPEARS TO BE A WEEPING WILLOW TREE, NEAR A FENCE, THAT MAY BE A GRAVE SITE OR MEMORIAL OF SOME KIND. THERE ARE ALSO TINY GOLD LEAF ROSETTES REVERSE PAINTED ON THE GLASS, MOST OF WHICH HAVE DISCOLORED OVER TIME. THE BUTTON IS IN OVERALL VERY GOOD CONDITION, THE GLASS HAS NO CHIPS OR CRACKS, BUT THERE IS SOME LOSE TO THE REVERSE PAINTED SCENE. SOME OF THE PAINT HAS FLAKED AWAY. ITS SIZE IS 1 3 / 8 INCHES IN DIAMETER, IT HAS A BRASS PLATED COPPER RIM, AND HAS A STEEL BACK. THIS IS A BONUS TO THE SALE ONLY, AND NOT CONSIDERED IN THE SALE PRICE AT ALL. Rare and Early Georgian period Toy horses rocking horse antique toy collector
Posted by admin On January 16, 2020

+++I will be out of signal & unable to respond to any questions between Thursday 19th – Saturday 21st December. Set of Rare and Early Georgian Period Toy horses x 4 – suit rocking horse / antique toy collector display. Thought to be from the Georgian period and very possibly of solid body construction as per the Georgian rocking horses of this time. Wood & gesso with a gorgeous deep yellow patina to the shellac on all 4 of them. I just love the naiveness & simplicity these beautiful toys present. Dear little faces & outstretched legs typical of the period. They possibly could have started life on a platform as there is evidence of little stubs under some of the hooves. They are in overall good condition considering their age – albeit one or two slightly loose muscle blocks to inside under chest & some missing gesso & paint / loose harness in areas (can be reattached with care). Two of the horses come plain & two come harnessed – please see photos for their condition & the attention to detail on the harness which I find incredible. Each of the 4 horses is approx 14″ long by 10″ high. These are the only examples of toy horses in this Georgian style I have experienced or seen – after widely searching the web for similar & finding none. They are looking for an appreciative home to a new owner who appreciates their simplicity & English toy history. Thankyou for offers – but this is the price. Collection in person also welcome. The item “Rare and Early Georgian period Toy horses rocking horse antique toy collector” is in sale since Sunday, December 22, 2019. This item is in the category “Toys & Games\Vintage & Classic Toys\Other Vintage & Classic Toys”. The seller is “countrycottage” and is located in uk. This item can be shipped to United Kingdom.

Rare 9 Early Kestner 169 LITTLE MISS MUFFET Closed Mouth Antique Doll Bisque
Posted by admin On January 15, 2020

9 Rare Early Kestner #169. AS “LITTLE MISS MUFFET”. Fully Jointed Cabinet Doll. From the Mary Ann Hall Collection. Original Antique Doll – Made in Germany. Little Miss Muffet sat on a tuffet, Eating her curds and whey; Along came a spider, who sat down beside her… And she convinced the dear spider to stay! Mary Ann only collected the very best dolls. Little Miss Muffet Has Learned to Share! – Here you have a darling rare, early 9 Kestner 169 child, with closed mouth, on a fully-jointed composition body with straight wrists. Her bisque head is marked only with a “C”, the mold number 169, “Made in Germany, ” and what may be another “C” on the left (though it is faint). She has a lovely face, with bright blue glass paperweight (stationary) eyes. Her body in excellent original condition, with her original and beautiful full blond wig. After extensive research, I found that this doll is extremely rare and almost impossible to find, especially in great condition like this one. And she’s from a fine, reputable collection. She comes dressed in a Little Miss Muffet outfit, with her tuffet seat, an oh-so-cute felted spider, 2 bowls of “curds and whey, ” and two spoons… Because, of course, she has learned to share! Beautiful antique condition — from a non-smoking environment. No issues noticed on the bisque after careful examination. IMPORTANT: Besides the noteworthy issues mentioned above, EXPECT any antique doll (bisque/composition/leather/china/wood) to ALSO have: (1) SIGNS OF AGE – for example: toned/crazed/chipped composition, minor wig pulls, loss of “hair” lashes on bisque heads (if they had them), not-so-tight stringing, etc. (2) MINOR CONSERVATION WORK by previous owners/collectors – for example: reset eyes in most cases! , repairs to wig, repairs to clothing, touch-ups on composition/finish/paint, etc. Any MAJOR issues — hairline crack, total repaint, etc. – would be itemized above, but these normal age/conservation details are not. They are to be expected. I’LL BE GLAD TO ANSWER. If you live in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, or U. These countries have more flexible Priority Post options, but it depends on the size and value of the item you’re purchasing. And provided the items can travel safely in the same box. Opens in a separate window/tab. As often happens, it’s the few bad apples out there who ruin it for the rest of us. Not knowing what they’re doing. And then, when they realize they’ve ruined the doll, they return it saying it was defective. BUT HAVING SAID ALL THAT.. I do bend over backwards, attempting to disclose any noteworthy condition issues I can find or think of. But these are antique and vintage dolls — so, please understand that they won’t be in brand-new condition. There will always be some minor indication of their age, and it would be impossible to itemize every single pinhead-size stain on the outfit, or hairline scratch on the body. Please expect these types of conditions with old dolls. IT CONTAINS VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION. The item “Rare 9 Early Kestner 169 LITTLE MISS MUFFET Closed Mouth Antique Doll Bisque” is in sale since Saturday, January 11, 2020. This item is in the category “Dolls & Bears\Dolls\Antique (Pre-1930)\Bisque\German”. The seller is “saddlemountain” and is located in Newark, Delaware.
