Very Rare Early Viking Anglo Dane Broad Battle Axe Type M 2 Conserved EF
Posted by admin On September 20, 2019
Add To Saved Sellers. Very Rare Early Viking Anglo Dane Broad Battle Axe – Type M 2 Conserved – EF. Hilt to mid blade 19.2 cm: toe to heel blade 26.3 cm: weight 993 grams. Most axes, both in period illustrations and exact artefact, that fall under the description of Danish axe possess type L or type M heads according to Petersens axe typology: Both types consist of a wide, thin blade, with pronounced horns at both the toe and heel of the blade bit: Cutting surfaces vary, but they are generally between 20 and 30 cm [this example falls straight in the middle]. The blade itself is reasonable light and forged thin, making it a superb cutting form: many of these types of axes were constructed with a reinforced blade, typically of a higher carbon steel to facilitate a harder and sharper edge: The rear of the axe at the shaft has a rectangular hammer striking surface, which would allow a devastating shield-wall or armour blow. Extremely Fine Display Grade. The axe has been painstakingly conserved to eliminate oxide deposition: it has then been treated with a museum grade micro-wax to eliminate further oxide development. The axe was recovered in the East Anglia Fens 2007 [northern Cambridgeshire]: The axe was deposited in peat rich alluvium deposits within a drainage section where, the banks had eroded and slumped. RARE 1930s/ EARLY 40s ERA ANTIQUE NAVAJO CORN KACHINA with STAND NATIVE AMERICAN
Posted by admin On September 16, 2019
RARE 1930s/ 40s ERA ANTIQUE NAVAJO CORN KACHINA w/ STAND NATIVE AMERICAN. This is a very rare find. This is an antique Navajo kachina hand-carved out of a cottonwood representing one of the Corn Kachina. This kachina has been dated to around the 1930s/ early 40s by Mark Bahti of Bahti Indian Arts of Tucson and Santa Fe, paperwork will be included. The paperwork from Mark Bahti constitutes a professional analysis of the kachina, tribe and materials. This rare kachina falls into the Navajo folk art category. That being said, it is an incredible piece. This antique Native American, Corn kachina stands approximately 9-1/2″ tall in the stand, approximately 9-1/4″ tall out of the stand, approximately 4″ wide across the body and approximately 3″ deep including the nose. The body area is approximately 1-1/2 deep. One of the hands is missing and one of the feet has been glued back together, please see photos. Bahti feels this kachina was painted with one of the original type of poster paints and that the green paint is a type of mineral paint. The ruff was constructed out of a very old washcloth, cotton yarn for the belt that appears to be homespun. He did not state what he thought the skirt material was. There are very old feathers inserted into the top of the head for hair, most of which have rubbed away or broken off over the years. This kachina has a few stains, some splits in the wood, scratches and some rub to it, but in spite of that, it is in remarkably good condition for a kachina that is nearly 100 years old. It was originally designed to be hung by the neck as traditional Hopi kachinas are, but I have included a stand for your convenience. It can be displayed either way. This unique kachina was carved out of cottonwood This rare kachina would be an outstanding addition to any Western or Native American collection! Don’t forget to take a look at our other sales for more unique items.
