An impressive antique GORHAM Silver Plate 3 pc. 1920’s in traditional 19th century style. Have you ever seen a butter dome graced with a trio of figural neoclassical maiden supports holding a draped swag? The artistic details and craftsmanship of this treasure are extraordinary! Can you picture it on your dining table for a special gathering, on a charcuterie bar for keeping the butter or cheese cool, and then kept safely in your china cabinet where it can be admired? Marked on the bottom: GORHAM MFG CO (080 – 24) This model number (after extensive research) was determined to be undocumented and VERY RARE! Condition is EXCELLENT, with one exception (see last picture). There is a dent on the top dome opposite from the engraving. In other words, it is located in what would be considered the backside of the dome. This could be repaired by a third party after acquiring. However, I have never found that it detracts from its elegance. This work of art is destined to be a coveted family heirloom, once again. The origins of Gorham are in 1831 when the firm of Jabez Gorham was joined by Henry L. Webster in the Gorham & Webster. The company moved into a new headquarters in Providence, RI in 1890 as employment surpassed 500, and in 1905 they opened a retail outlet on Fifth Avenue in New York City. Throughout the latter half of the 19th century and into the 20th, Gorham attracted some of the best designers and silver artisans in the world. Their rapidly expanding business of doing one-of-a-kind pieces on commission for major world figures and events expanded their profile and introduced Gorham to an international clientele.
