RARE 18TH CENTURY EARLY MEISSEN ANTIQUE GERMAN PORCELAIN DOVE PIGEON TUREEN. EXCEPTIONALLY FINE AND RARE EARLY MEISSEN LIDDED SAUCE TUREEN. Presenting a magnificent 18th Century soft paste porcelain tureen and cover naturalistically modelled into the of a nesting dove / pigeon. This exceptional example was produced by the quality German makers, Meissen, circa mid to late 1700s. The beautifully modelled dove is seated upon a basket moulded base with applied shredded clay foliage trimming the top of the nest. This piece is wonderfully finished in naturalistic glazes. This piece is presented in very good antique condition with some exceptionally minor losses to the shredded clay foliage noticeable only on extremely close examination but mentioned for complete accuracy. There appears to be a minor old repair to one side of the birds tail which has been professionally done and incredibly hard to spot. We had to take a magnifyer to the piece and even then it was hard to detect. There is a minuscule fleabite sized nibble to the top of the crest upon the birds head and the tiniest rough spot to the tip of the birds beak. There is some internal staining which we have not attempted to bleach out or remove in any way and should be able to be lessened in the new owners preferred manner. Light overall surface crazing mentioned for accuracy. This authentic antique example has survived exceptionally well and presents spectacularly. The unglazed base is beautifully marked with Meissen’s brushed blue crossed swords. This impressive piece stands approx 120mms tall, measures 195mms in length and 78mms in width. Early Meissen examples such as this fine figural tureen are highly desirable and feature in top Museum collections. This stunning piece would make an outstanding addition to any early Meissen, quality antique porcelain or figural tureen collection! Here we have another special girl. She’s 19 and precious! Her mama and papa cry strings STILL WORK (see pic). When you pull on the strings she cries! She was a playmate of orig owner. We have NOT removed her wig to check for cracks and do not want to do so just for pics. But what we can see there are not any. She’s wearing a pretty peach organza dress, slip, pantaloons, socks and shoes and one earring. And an adorable straw hat with a peach ribbon and feather to match her dress. Exactly how she came to us many years ago. She has a ball jointed wooden body and is jointed at her wrists, elbows and knees. Her body seems to have been repainted but if so, this was done many, many years ago. Her left wrist does not move do to repainting but all other joints are working great. Extraordinary and very early , all cloth ” Baby Land Rag “, “topsy-turvy”, “Topsy & Eva” , black and white doll, circa 1904 , with hand painted features (before they started using the lithographed mask faces) and measuring about, 14 tall. Called, #7 “Two Dolls Combined in One ” as shown in original illustrated, BABYLAND Rag Dolls, catalogue, shown on page 64, “Cloth Dolls”-Linda Edward, she wears all her original clothing as pictured there. One side has shows “Betty” with the most beautiful, blue painted eyes with excellent detail, eyebrows to match her wispy blond painted curls, adorable little nose, blushed cheeks and sweetly painted mouth. Flop her over to find, “Topsy” with thick black hair and dark eyes. They have a cotton-stuffed, linen body, joined at the waist, stuffed heads and mitten-type hands and wear their original fine cotton dresses , as well as their matching, Shaker type bonnets with wide, face-framing ruffled trim and ties. RARE EARLY Antique Book. Presented for your consideration is this ultra rare, early, antique book. The book is titled, The British Housewife: or the Cook, Housekeeper’s and Gardiner’s Companion, and was written by Martha Bradley. It was printed for S. There is no publication date but dates to circa 1760. The text in this book was first published in weekly articles in 1756 but wasn’t published in book form until 1760. Some of the words in the book are also written with phonetic symbols commonly found in English words of the time. For example, “also” is written as “alfo” in the book and “a” is replaced with ae. The 752 page book gives advice on how to cook certain kinds of food, home medicine, housekeeping, how to maintain a garden and orchard, disorders and remedies for farm animals, and how to plan and maintain herbs. The book is basically an all in one manual for how to run a farm, garden and house! There are several recipes throughout the book as well for food as well as home medicines. The recipes are divided into the following categories: pastry, puddings, preserves, pickles, fricassees, ragouts, soups, sauces, jellies, tarts, cakes, creams, custards, candies, dried fruits, sweetmeats, wines, cordials, and distillery. All pages appear to be intact and free of damage, with the exception of some light foxing. Pages are tightly bound. Finished with a leather hardcover with a ribbed spine. This very hard to find book would make an excellent addition to any rare or early book collection! A fun read for anyone interested in homemaking! The front cover has separated from the rest of the book. Some wear is along the cover edges with the most significant wear being on the spine. As previously mentioned there is some light foxing of the pages. Some light staining is on the front and back covers. No rips or tears in the pages. Overall in VERY GOOD condition for its age.
