Ohio 1805 Arrowsmith Lewis Carey rare early state map Army Lands VA grant

(North America / United States/ early state maps). 1805, by Arrowsmith & Lewis. Known as “Barker’s Ohio map”. Significant early 19th century map of Ohio, among the earliest capturing this state in its infancy. Depicts the roads then available over which immigrants could easily pass through Ohio and the potentially hostile areas of Indian Lands. The state is divided into Indian Land, Army Land, Seven Ranges, a Virginia Donation, and a French grant. The notation “Major Truman killed” appears in the northwest region, showing where Captain Alexander Trueman was killed by Indians while on a peace mission in 1792. Another notation stating Indians defeated Aug. 20, 1794 is seen just south of Ft. Ohio became a state in 1803. Paper evenly uniformly age toned, approx. The piece is cut on an ultra clear super heavy blank in a beautiful whiskey jug shape. The cut, weight, and clarity is superior. This is a great piece of glass when in the hand. Rare Early Georgian Figured Walnut Lowboy Table, Initials to top, Country House

This is a handsome and well aged antique early Georgian lowboy which dates to the 1700s. It is a modestly sized piece of furniture, not particularly large or heavy, so perfect for a room with limited space. The lowboy has a fantastic amount of character and was found in a rural country house in South Devon. Figured walnut with pine lined drawers the lowboy has a central frieze drawer, shaped apron and flanking deep drawers. It is set on chamfered legs with slightly swept terminals and to the top the initials’B. S. G’ have been carved on the left hand side. The wood has a polished finish and is very well aged. The lowboy is generally in good structural condition having been checked over in our workshop, cosmetically there are many marks of age and use with various patch repairs to the veneer on the table top. There are old inactive woodworm holes to one side panel and one leg has been repaired. The handles are most certainly a later addition and the lock to the central drawer is a later replacement. This piece is well aged and pretty ancient looking, perfect if you love old, well aged furniture. The measurements are taken at the widest points. This is a very rare French farmhouse hunting table table à gibier sourced in the Loire Valley – from the early 18th Century. This table was used to present game after a hunt, which was considered to be a pastime of Royalty and the privileged class. This table that features 2 drawers (one in the front and one on the side) can be used as kitchen / dining table (it can sit up to 6 people) or a kitchen island. It shows some signs of wear consistent with age and use and signs of extinct woodworm holes that we have treated for good measure. Full of character this table crafted in beech, elm and oak has aged to a stunning very light colour and would make the most stunning statement piece in any home. Rare Early 3 Step Herbert Terry 1227 Anglepoise Lamp Original Green & Chrome

Purveyors of wonderful things. Hello and welcome to the sale of this rare and sought after Anglepoise lamp. Made by Herbert Terry & Sons of Redditch in the early 1930’s this is the first example of the classic 1227 desk lamp and is identified by its three step base and small shade (amongst other things but I won’t bore you with the details). This particular example is best described as a’survivor’ and was in a pretty poor condition prior to restoration. The shade and base come in their original green crinkle paint and have been cleaned and given a light coating of wax to help preserve the patina. The paintwork isn’t too bad, but expect surface rust and chips to the paint. The arms were chromed but much of this had come away. Any loose chrome was removed and the bare steel has been burnished then waxed. This finish gives a nice patina and doesn’t look over restored. All the springs, tensioners, bars and bolts are present and correct and have been lightly cleaned and replaced. A original Crabtree bakelite has been sourced and fitted with three meters of new good quality fabric cable, that is correctly earthed to the frame as per the original wiring and fitted with a new 3A plug. Lastly some new green felt has been applied to the base. The lamp holds its position well, however the shade rotating left and right is a little stiff as is the fork in the base. Neither affects its everyday use and isn’t bad for a lamp thats almost 90 years old! Please have a good look at the photographs as they form part of the description and contact me if you have any further questions. If you’re looking for a lamp of this type be careful, many have been made up from later lamps, repainted or missing original parts, springs etc. A lot of info in available on the internet and well worth a read. The lamp measures (in cm) 60 tall, 44 deep and 15 wide (base). It weighs 4.3kg. You are more than welcome to collect or I can deliver locally if needed.
