Rare turned head Kestner early letter series antique doll
Posted by admin On August 20, 2020

Angie: This is a rare early 18 inch Kestner with the mark J or F on the perfect head, a turned head. The sleep eyes work beautifully and are brown, pink lids are so sweet; the shoulder head is in perfect shape with no chips cracks or rubs on the doll. She is named Angie on the tag is from 1880’s but most likely made in the late 1890’s with a lovely original good condition kid leather body that has working joints with no leaks, the doll is fully dressed in four layers of fine lace, batiste, and silk. She has on hand made leather kid boots and possesses tiny buttons 4 of them. The sweet doll has silk stockings and a lace bonnet which is enchanting. The underdress is all hand made as is the silk afternoon walking coat dress. A perfect doll for the discriminating doll collector. I love the style of the dress too, with the piping running down each side and all the lace, such perfection. Rare Early-mid 19th C American Antique Treenware Turned Spool Thread Holder
Posted by admin On March 24, 2020

RARE EARLY-MID 19TH CENTURY AME RI CAN ANTIQUE TREENWARE, LATHE-TURNED SPOOL. THREAD HOLDER, W/WHITE CORD. Antique early-mid 19th c American treenware. 5 ½” Height x 4 ½” Diameter (widest point/ top). There’s an old drying fracture of the maple hardwood on the top, turned edge of the lid of the early to mid 19th century antique maple treenware thread spool holder. This was not the result of a concussion due to a previous drop, but more likely the result of drying of the wood over time, since the piece is nearly 200 years in age. This is an early piece of Americana and early American utilitarian, decorative treenware and its condition is commensurate with its age and previous use. This was not a purely decorative object that was put on a shelf and admired. Rather it would have been used and often used, since textiles were produced in the home and repairs were most certainly produced in the home. This is a rather early piece of American antique treenware and it has recognizable, characteristic fine, lathe-turned detailed lines. The maple hardwood is a wood often used by cabinet makers in 18th and early 19th century America and particularly in New England, where maple was tough and durable and would have withstood repeated abuse. It remains untouched and featuring original rubbed, naturally aged surfaces and patina. It has not been dusted or oiled. It remains in absolutely the same antique condition it was originally constituted in. A remarkable early New England cultural artifact and a splendid piece of early Americana. Good to Very Good overall antique condition. The item “RARE EARLY-MID 19TH C AMERICAN ANTIQUE TREENWARE TURNED SPOOL THREAD HOLDER” is in sale since Monday, October 21, 2019. Rare Early Antique Fh Ayres Turned Head Extra Carved Rocking Horse Circa 1880
Posted by admin On March 1, 2020

Sadly having to part with my beloved rocking-horse. Over twenty years with me. Extensive and painstaking restoration has revealed what is left of the original paintwork, with wonderful patination to the neck where years of childrens hands have rubbed. Some original leatherwork remains, but most is antiqued replacement, very sympathetically done. Most of one ear is missing, but was done such a long time ago I decided to leave it alone rather than have it cut about. Made by FH Ayres, the most sought after maker, and is without doubt one of the very first swing stand horses ever made. The horse has a lovely turn to the head. 40 inches to highest part of neck. Would be classed as a medium sized horse. Stand has replacement posts and cross-braces, the rest is original, along with the beautifully carved runner ends. Horse would have had saddle pommels, but I did not bother to replace these. Please note this is an ANTIQUE and piece of objet d’art, NOT a TOY. The photos don’t do it justice at all. Price is not negotiable. We are located in Norfolk, not far from Banham Zoo. The item “RARE EARLY ANTIQUE FH AYRES TURNED HEAD EXTRA CARVED ROCKING HORSE CIRCA 1880″ is in sale since Friday, February 28, 2020. This item is in the category “Toys & Games\Vintage & Classic Toys\Rocking Horses”. The seller is “brynhild42″ and is located in Norwich. This item can’t be shipped, the buyer must pick up the item.

Rare early 18th william & mary oak side chair circa 1730 Quebec turned legs seat
Posted by admin On October 4, 2019

BEAUTIFUL OAK SIDE CHAIR. WILLIAM & MARY PERIOD. About 16″ x 12″ x 31 1/2. 14 1/2 height to seat. Wonderful solid oak side chair. Probably Quebec, Canada, origin. “Picture frame” back with cyma curve borders. Pegged mortise and tenon joint construction. Flat, single plank seat with molded edges, slightly trapezoidal shape, secured with small wooden pegs. Pegged mortise and tenon construction. Block and turned legs and stretcher with “H” form lower stretcher. Full length feet, not cut down. At first, I thought the “picture frame” back was designed to hold some kind of upholstered pad. But that is not correct. It was designed to be open, as indicated by the curved upper and lower borders, fitting flush to the back, and intended to be visible from the front. A similar example is in the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum in Manhattan, New York City (visible through wikimedia commons), and another with the non-profit organization Furnishing New France. Strong and sturdy, all joints tight. Fabulous old oak patina. A RARE EXAMPLE OF EARLY EIGHTEENTH CENTURY NORTH AMERICAN FURNITURE. The item “Rare early 18th william & mary oak side chair circa 1730 Quebec turned legs seat” is in sale since Tuesday, October 1, 2019. This item is in the category “Antiques\Furniture\Chairs\Pre-1800″. The seller is “allenpeach” and is located in Tenants Harbor, Maine. This item can be shipped worldwide.
