Wooden traditional Distaff, a spinning old tool for manual spinning thread of wool, flax, hemp & other natural textile fiber. It was used in combination with the spindle and was also called distaff or “rock” in English and “Rocca” in Greek and Balkan languages. Here is a rare and early Greek Islands embroidery from the 17th Century or early 18th C. Colors are very well preserved and the embroidery is in fairly good condition.
