Rare Antique Early 19th C English Pillar Floral Chintz Cotton Fabric Brown Red
Posted by admin On September 29, 2024
I had a wonderful opportunity to acquire a gorgeous collection of early 19th century, circa 1820’s chintz. All English printed for the American market. A prestigious fine collection from a New England collector. I’ll be listing them all in separate listings. This listing is for a sublime early pillar floral chintz. Roller printed & hand block printed. Pillar prints are highly collectible & this is truly a stunning example. The scale is large. Please zoom into all the lovely elements as it is beautifully created. Very overcast today so not certain my photos do this outstanding piece justice. Appears in lovely condition for it’s age with a hint of mellowing to the early hues & some surface patina. Excellent for many authentic early period projects & quilt repair, cushions, framing, possibly a cover for a stool or similar etc. And excellent in a collection or archive as these are all very rare survivors. So early & so hard to find. Measures 23″ wide by 35″ long. If desiring the full panel, please enter a quantity of “2” & you’ll receive a length that is 23″ wide by 70″ long. Hello and welcome to Pia’sI sell antique and vintage fabric. Each textile is different; some possibly used, some unused. I will give you my best assessment. I have a 30+ year long & extensive knowledge of textiles and gauge age ranges; fiber content etc.. To the best of my ability. As always please view all photos, dimensions etc.. As they are part of the description. Please keep in mind that I provide the best photos possible but monitors do vary. If my eyes should miss a small flaw, please know it is not intentional. Rare Antique Early 19thc Arborescent Bird Fountain Chintz Fabric Lg. Quilt Piece
Posted by admin On March 31, 2022
Absolutely beautiful and so rare to find. A fine early bird chintz quilted textile from about 1820. The front is a bird drinking from a fountain or possibly an urn or fountain surrounded by arborescent foliage and flora. There is a lovely speckled design to the ground. Lovely soft autumnal type hues of sage green and soft browns. Either English or American. Not overly glazed, soft and soft tones. The back is a madder toned cotton print which is later than the cotton chintz on the front so very possibly generational. I imagine once part of a larger counterpane. One edge is stitched under as is the bottom in tiny stitches I have tried to show in the photos. The other edge is raw. An amazing piece for the collector of rare early textiles. Displays beautifully in an early setting. Strong and stable and in fine condition for it’s age. Some age tanning to the bottom area as seen in photo #10 which to me adds lovely charisma to this charming specimen. Measures just slightly over 10″ wide by aprox 73-74″ long. Rare Antique 18th early 19thc French Ferns Silk Brocade Fabric Cream Silver
Posted by admin On February 17, 2022
Amazing early silk brocade. Dense and luminous in a larger fern design with pale silvery metallic. Sublime French sourced early brocade though may also be Italian in origin. Either way, an exquisite find. Possibly either once part of a banner, window piece or even clothing, cloak etc.. Not certain but the scallop is very unique and ornamental. Safely early 19thc but feel strongly earlier. Overall, again very strong. There are some subtle faint abrasions, minimal and seen mostly when you lay it down as when it’s upright, the reflection hides them well and it looks quiet pristine. The scallop backing is a very thin silk & is somewhat frail but overall stable. It’s been overall well maintained through it’s journey given it’s age and pale color. It begins at about 18″ in width and gradually goes to about 21″ by 20 long. The scallops add apox 4. At the time of this listing I have 2 almost identical pieces to offer so you can select from the available quantity. Strong enough to be used in special projects, framed or added to a collection. A most marvelous find. I sell antique and vintage fabric. Each textile is different; some possibly used, some unused. I will give you my best assessment.
