Bentwood style frame with a drop in padded sprung seat. A great shape and style, a wonderful little antique chair. Some age/wear to be expected but in good condition for it’s years and a great chair. BEAUTIFUL OAK SIDE CHAIR. WILLIAM & MARY PERIOD. About 16″ x 12″ x 31 1/2. 14 1/2 height to seat. Wonderful solid oak side chair. Probably Quebec, Canada, origin. “Picture frame” back with cyma curve borders. Pegged mortise and tenon joint construction. Flat, single plank seat with molded edges, slightly trapezoidal shape, secured with small wooden pegs. Pegged mortise and tenon construction. Block and turned legs and stretcher with “H” form lower stretcher. Full length feet, not cut down. At first, I thought the “picture frame” back was designed to hold some kind of upholstered pad. But that is not correct. It was designed to be open, as indicated by the curved upper and lower borders, fitting flush to the back, and intended to be visible from the front. A similar example is in the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum in Manhattan, New York City (visible through wikimedia commons), and another with the non-profit organization Furnishing New France. Strong and sturdy, all joints tight. Fabulous old oak patina. A RARE EXAMPLE OF EARLY EIGHTEENTH CENTURY NORTH AMERICAN FURNITURE. Rare Early Modernist 1931 Steel Lounge Armchair by PEL, Oliver Bernard chair
This very early and rare chair (model no: RP2) was probably designed by the British modernist architect Oliver Bernard, the father of writer and journalist Geoffrey Bernard. It was manufactured by PEL (Production Equipment Limited) using revolutionary materials and techniques in the early 1930s. It retains its brass makers label. This information is from the Design Council’s records for PEL furniture. The condition is very good with little wear or rust/pitting to the chrome and it has been partially recovered in new matching black vinyl on the seat and arms. The reverse of the back shows signs of wear in the usual places and some of the springs have been replaced using ones of the correct age and style. See pictures for condition. Cm x depth 83cm. Ercol Blonde Dressing Table with Mirror. & Model 414 Low Backed Dressing Chair. I have found it seriously hard to part with this – such a beautiful set! ERCOL MODEL 408 DRESSING TABLE WITH MIRROR. Beautiful original Blue Label Ercol Blonde Model 408 Dressing Table and Mirror in excellent condition and still with glass sliders in end drawers. Adjustable carved wood threaded pins fully in tact to rear of mirror. Please note this has the older style circular knobs – so a rare, early Ercol piece. The later 60s version has oval knobs and a carved recess behind the knobs. There are gentle signs of wear commensurate with age, and the previous owner had this from new and looked after it with pride. There is a scratch to the back of the mirror (picture 11) and a small, hard to notice blemish on the top surface (see picture 12 with 10p piece) this is truly hardly noticeable, I only saw it because I was looking for it! I would still say this dressing table is in fine condition, especially for its age, with beautiful shine and depth of colour, near immaculate. As you would expect from Ercol, it is beautifully crafted, made from solid elm with, the exception of the nicely grained elm veneered back panels, and has lovely dovetail joints to the corners. It measures 114cm wide x 54 cm deep (Top itself is 48cm). Height to table is 74cm, and to top of mirror 123cm. The mirror measures 86cm X 42cm. ERCOL LOW BACK CHAIR 1960 MODEL 414. Original Ercol dressing chair model 414 designed in 1950’s in excellent condition. This particular chair was made in 1960 – there is a stamped kite mark on the underside as pictured. It is beautifully made with a solid elm seat and the rest in beech and is strong and sturdy. It measure 42cms wide x 41cms deep x 64cms high x 42cms to seat. This is a low seated Ercol Windsor Fireside chair in the “Cowhorn” style so called due to the curved arms. An early version with only seven spindles. The press studs are present under the seat so that cushions can be attached. The later versions have nine spindles with a higher seat. The Blue Ercol label “Made in England” is present. The chair has been stripped and fully re-polished with a hard wearing lacquer. It is sturdy with no loose joints or spindles. See our other listing for a second chair. Dimensions: Height of back 68 cm 27″ Width across arms 54cm 21″ Seat measurements: Width 48cm 19″ Depth 41cm 16″ Height 34cm 13.5″ The thickness of the seat is 4cm 1.5″. You will pay him on arrival. He uses plenty of blankets and straps to look after your item. He works alone so would need help unloading if the item is large or heavy. We can arrange a two man service if required. We use state-of-the-art water borne lacquers as used by manufacturers. They have been certified to FIRA Standard 6250 for surfaces in heavy/severe use and are superior to any oil or wax.
