An impressive’nkisi’ power figure of haunting presence, yet pared down to a minimum of paraphernalia compared to other Songye power figures. (horse-) hair in the nostrils, a bead necklace and a skirt, held in place by a belt made of felt, and a single nail with hemispherical head in the belly. The sculpture is made from hardwood with a dark brown blackish surface and mounted on an exquisite purpose made stand. The height of 37,5cm is without the purpose made stand. Up for sale is a very rare antique early 19th century English brass and cast iron doorstop. This ornate doorstop is cast out of thick brass and mounted to a solid cast iron base. It has a hand turned shaft with a scalloped finial and has acquired a lovely patina from age. Century Treen carved wood apple tea caddy with original key. This is a good example, very nicely carved, the silver plate lining is distressed as is the norm, very rare to find the period key. RARE EARLY MODEL 19th CENTURY BIRAMS PATENT ANENOMETER AIR METER BAIRD GLASGOW
An early model Anenometer or wind meter signed, on the dial’BAIRD & SON GLASGOW 158B’ & signed on the cross bar BIRAMS PATENT. I believe this was the first of the Birams Patent Anemometers produced around 1848. These first examples were constructed with black painted copper vanes with copper wire holding each vane to each other, whereas the later ones were constructed with aluminium vanes. The dial is small with two working recording dials – please note: minor chip to glass. This essential instrument was used as a safety guide to read ventilation in mines during the 19th Century – it was simply held up via the loop at the top. Original lacquer is stained in places. The galleried top has bamboo design carving to the edges and is further ornately carved with flowers, leaves, etc. The polished centre of the tray is inscribed “Anita October 29th 1913 Srinagar” Supported on an’X’ shaped foldable base.
