Rare Early Modernist 1931 Steel Lounge Armchair by PEL, Oliver Bernard chair

This very early and rare chair (model no: RP2) was probably designed by the British modernist architect Oliver Bernard, the father of writer and journalist Geoffrey Bernard. It was manufactured by PEL (Production Equipment Limited) using revolutionary materials and techniques in the early 1930s. It retains its brass makers label. This information is from the Design Council’s records for PEL furniture. The condition is very good with little wear or rust/pitting to the chrome and it has been partially recovered in new matching black vinyl on the seat and arms. The reverse of the back shows signs of wear in the usual places and some of the springs have been replaced using ones of the correct age and style. See pictures for condition. Cm x depth 83cm.
