Very Early & Rare One Piece Dial Vienna Wall Clock. Nice early and very rare one piece dial Vienna wall clock, these early examples are often referred to as’Biedermeier’. ? They were often made in Austria and not Germany and have much finer cases, which are more subtle and elegant and are certainly better constructed. The enamel dial is surrounded by a’pie crust’ cast bezel which is another early feature. The dial with nice fine hands is in very nice shape but there are a few scratches near the winding holes which are very hard to see. The movement is the lift on type, to the back plaque. The movement is clean with fine wheel work and dead beat? . The beat plaque is silvered brass which is a little faded. There is a key, weight and pendulum. The fine case looks like inlaid walnut? Which is faded in some areas (see photos) it has been in a direct sunlight. The fine crest at the top and bottom are in good condition. Early clocks like this have beautiful proportions and measures 40.5in tall (inc crest) x 11in wide x 4.75in deep. Please don’t confuse this early piece with the much inferior later German versions, this is a hard to find clock of some quality. It runs for 10-15mins then stops so would certainly benefit from a good clean and service. One side of the glass is missing on this excellent find. A nice little project that with a little work will run. Please see photos as it forms part of the description. Please note that I will only accept collection only on this item. Postal costs refer to UK mainland addresses. Most of what is known of the ancient world comes from the accounts of antiquity’s own historians. Although it is important to take into account the bias of each ancient author, their accounts are the basis for our understanding of the ancient past. Some of the more notable ancient writers include Herodotus. A fundamental difficulty of studying ancient history is that recorded histories. Cannot document the entirety of human events, and only a fraction of those documents have survived into the present day. Furthermore, the reliability of the information obtained from these surviving records must be considered. Few people were capable of writing histories, as literacy was not widespread in almost any culture until long after the end of ancient history. The earliest known systematic historical thought emerged in ancient Greece. Beginning with Herodotus of Halicarnassus. Largely eliminated divine causality in his account of the war between Athens and Sparta. Establishing a rationalistic element which set a precedent for subsequent Western historical writings. He was also the first to distinguish between cause and immediate origins of an event. Was an ancient culture with a relatively high literacy rate. Very Rare 1886 to Early 1900’s Antique K & R Simon Halbig German Bisque Doll. The Doll is priced to match dolls of this age and condition. Please make reasonable offer if you would like this rare gem of a doll. This rare doll is out of an estate, and has belonged to the same family since it was made. She is in very good condition considering her age. Her head has no chips, cracks. She has her original wooden body and it is in great condition. The Kämmer & Reinhardt doll company was formed in 1886. By the sculptor Ernst Kammer and the salesman Franz Reinhardt. In Waltershausen, Thüringia, Germany by Ernst Kämmer and Franz Reinhardt. Early K & R dolls were made of wax. K & R bisque doll heads and bodies were designed by them, but most heads were manufactured by Simon & Halbig which is why heads bear both marks. From 1886 to 1909 K & R made only dolly faced dolls with a bisque head on a composition ball jointed or kid body, many with an open mouth and teeth (like this doll). After 1909 they made many types of dolls; bisque, composition or celluloid heads and even cloth costume dolls with wired bodies dressed in various professions. K & R is probably best known for character baby and child dolls. Bisque head on a ball jointed composition. Swivel bisque head with the original cork pate. Working brown glass sleep eyes that still open and close. Her mouth is open with her teeth showing. Mohair Hair with Flowers in them. She is still wearing her original clothing; a beautiful pink long dress with black lace detailing, a white slip. The dress is made by hand and is in very good condition, just missing some buttons.
