Extremely early 1/6th daguerreotype of a older man most likely born in the 1700s holding is glasses with a astonished look on his face. Image dates to c. 1840 with a very rare original gold painted paper mat. Image had no original seals but glass was original and dirty. Glass was cleaned and image was resealed with P-90 filmoplast. Excellent image all around! Image has swipes from the original photo process and what looks like the photographers thumb print. I have owned this for 15 years and bought it from the original owner who bought it from the Stolab factory, a Swedish lady living in London who nursed her babies in this very chair. It has bags of charm and lovely original patina as well as a pencil signature’Sibbo 5887 Ek’ which I presume is for Ekstrom. It might even be by his own hand. Here’s a little bit about this rare chair. The Sibbo chair designed by Yngve Ekström for Stolab, Sweden, circa 1950. The Sibbo chairs are referred to as’loungettes’ on the basis of their petite size. The design has a wide seat -characteristic of Ekström- but the chairs are squat in every other respect. Aesthetically, each part of the chair is distinct, the top rail, seat, arms, spindles, and legs are all unique in shape, but the individual forms are equally strong. Although small and created entirely from wood, the loungettes are perfectly formed and provide a surprising amount of comfort to the sitter. The slender and sculptural form also creates a brilliant visual lightness that means the chairs would fit into even the most challenging of spaces. The chair is structurally perfect with only the smallest of nicks to the back and the oak used throughout boasts the original un molested finish and a lovely aged patina. Any questions please ask. EARLY & RARE STERLING SILVER POCKET WHISKEY FLASK MAKER & DATE HALLMARKED. EARLY & RARE WILLIAM IV STERLING SILVER POCKET WHISKEY. CAMPAIGN FLASK FULLY LONDON HALMARKED / MAKER. CHARLES REILY & GEORGE STORER / DATED 1833. This is a high quality, Maker hallmarked and dated, Antique early 19. Sterling silver campaign Whiskey flask in an unusual small cylindrical shape. This eye appealing flask is completely hand made in the very desirable small size pocket flask size; 3 ½ tall flask x 1 ½ in diameter and is intended as a pocket flask, typically kept inside a jacket pocket. This is called a campaign flask as it was intended for a gentleman and sportsman to take along on any hunting, sporting event, for traveling or just carry for an occasional nip. The cylindrical body has a flat plate silver soldered to the bottom of the base which has slightly rounded edges. The mushroom shaped sterling silver screw cap has a slightly domed top with a collar on the top and bottom of the neck. The threaded screw top appears to have the original cork insert and secures the top to the bottle securely and appears it would hold liquid if used; but it has not been tested. The front face of the body has personalized initials in Old English script that appears to be W T C. Being handmade, this piece has a very slight undulations in the body as it was hand hammered from the inside. There are no real dents; just one small ding on the back side opposite the engraved initials. This piece seems heavy for its size, weighing 2 ounces or 55 grams. This piece has 4 Hallmark markings; CG is the Maker Mark of Charles Reily & George Storer / London. This mark was first registered in 1829, and the firm was in business from 1828 to 1850. The hallmark to the right is the duty mark with the profile of King George IV, used from 1822 to 1833. This flask was made in 1833, the last year this mark was used before the new Regency mark for King William began in 1834. The next mark is the Lion mark for. 925 Sterling, and the mark S is the London date mark for 1833. The 521 and BB scratched into the base represent an inventory # and the initials of the Artisan/Craftsman of the firm. This handsome pocket Whiskey campaign flask was hand crafted by Artisans in Old England, remains in excellent condition overall with a very light, natural aged patina, and demonstrates this piece has been put up and well taken care of in its 188 years of age. Small pocket flasks from this period are quite rare in this condition. This would be great for any Whiskey or Spirits, gambling, or flask collection; and could still be used by any gentleman, sportsman, hunter, outdoors man, or sports fan; or use as a gift, decorator piece in any Man cave, office, or den. It is marked Sterling on one of the small tubular supports for the lamp. It measures almost 4 1/2 inches long and 2 inches at the widest part. It stands about 2 inches tall at the oil part and the dragon figure. What a rare piece to find still intact. It is in good condition execpt for a few small dents in the round bowl. They are minor considering the age of the piece. Nothing to take away for the piece itself. I polished the piece after I took the photos. Check out our other auctions this week.
