Amber-colored cylin der-shaped antique medicine bottle that o riginally contained a HEROIN LACED medicine. This one has both CODEINE and OPIUM printed on the label. It is an ORIGINAL ANTIQUE M old B lown bottle with a cork top, dating back a good 100 years old. Bottle embossed on shoulder : ” Glykeron “. Bottle’s label reads in part : GLYKERON… EACH FLUID OUNCE CONTAINS 1 GRAIN CODEINE PHOSPHATE OPIUM DERIVATIVE — MAY BE HABIT FORMING… ALCOHOL 3 1/2 % BY VOLUME… Base of bottle embossed : MARTIN H. / CHEMISTS / NEW YORK. Condition : Bottle is nice, clean and sturdy. This is a shallow surfaced bubble on the base and the embossing is a little weak, but there is nothing specifically wrong with the bottle, NO cracks, chips, dings, damage, etc. It has the ORIGINAL PAPER LABEL and as for the condition of the label, well PLEASE see pictures for a better idea of that. Age : An ORIGINAL ANTIQUE mold blown (ABM) bottle with a cork-top, ca. T his product originally hit the market in the 1890’s as “Glyco – Heroin”, and it was put up in a bottle that looked just like this bottle. As time passed and the FDA was organized, the name of the product was modified to “GlyKeron”, a shortened version of Glyco-Heroin, which is what this bottle is. It was toned down, the Heroin ingredient was dropped, but as the label states on this one, it was still “HABIT FORMING” as it still had a narcotic ingredient (Codeine / Opium) and was classified as an “EXEMPT NARCOTIC”. So instead of it being Glyco-Heroin with Heroin in it, it became Gly-Keron with Codeine in it, as this example is. This is one of a very few antique bottles that has surpassed a century of time with the paper label intact, which makes it quite appealing since the label mentions both CODEINE and OPIUM , check it out! Rare early 17th century GERMAN painted wooden framed carved. Corpus Christi/ Home Altar. These miniature (counted small size in their own time) altarpieces were the centre of private chapels. And cells of noblemen and clerics and, as such, they formed the focus of their solitary prayers and confessions. The work of the sculptor is remarkable. By exaggerating the size of certain anatomical parts, it amplifies the subject’s strength. The quality of the carving is particularly evident in the facial expression and the fine curls of the face. Alongside the skilful rendering of the anatomy, the figure is also characterised by the naturalistic ponderation. Of the upper and lower body. With vertical hairline cracks and yellowing. Mounted on a velvet covered wooden panel. Most of the time only the corpus remained without the frame holding it. Very rare, well preserved original condition, Southern Germany, around 1700. 20k hammered price at several auctions this year! Size of frame : 28 x 33 cm. Gilding and painting is worn. Size of corpus : Height 15 cm, width of arms 10 cm. It can be removed from the frame.
