This is a very rare early antique Georgian sterling silver port crayon pencil holder with a hobnail seal top end circa late 18c it is not hallmarked witch is not uncommon for pencils of this age but is fully tested as at least 925 silver as you can see it is in perfect condition with no damage at all the pencil and has a beautiful feel to it and a joy to hold it measures 85.5mm long and weighs 5.9 grams and is fully working this is a scarce pencil in this condition and a must for the collector. A Georgian silver desk stand, with two capped glass inkwells and a central pen holder with beaded decoration, raised on ball and claw feet, London 1778, maker William Plumber. Antique Victorian Silver Inkwell Superb. This outstanding Georgian solid silver inkwell will make an impressive addition to your desk, with its detailed pretty and delicate floral engravings throughout, a fantastic quality base which holds 2 glass inkwells in excellent condition as well as a prettily decorated candle holder. Would make a great addition to your desk or collection! Hallmarked to the underside of the stand for London 1778 by William Plummer. The three pierced silver bottle holders are each part hallmarked with the lion passant. The bottle caps and collars are unmarked. In excellent condition with light surface wear commensurate with age. There is no glass damage and the bottles would appear to be original and matching. A little clouding of the silver on the inkstand base. Approximate hallmarked silver weight is 6.2 troy ounces. Approximate total weight is 1.264 kilos. Approximate dimensions are 18 cm length, 13cm width and. This item displays beautifully but there is a obvious repair to on of the leg which looks as though it has been done a very long time ago. Iam sure this could be made tidier by a professional but I think it just adds to the charm of the piece and I have reflected this damage in the asking price. Both glass inkwells are 100 % original and in superb condition for their age. This lovely item can be used exactly as intended over 244 years ago. I really don’t want to sell this but my wife has pulled rank and I want it to go to someone who will display it and appreciate its beauty. This would make a beautiful present or indulgent treat. If you have a favourite pen like me it’s a perfect way to have it on display. Us serious collectors have spent a fortune on pens but who has a more characterful charming way to show them off. A rare solid silver novelty Traveling Pocket Photograph Case, early Asprey 1893. A rare and very good quality novelty double traveling pocket Photograph Case of plain design with curved corners and hinged catch, the inside having one square and one oval photograph holder retailed by Houghton & Gunn which later was bought by Asprey. Every piece with full English Hallmarks for London 1893 – Makers marks for J. Good Antique Condition with a few very light dents and scratches from use as expected on the outside and slight dis-colouration to the velvet along on side (probably silver polish and will clean off). Closed 3.25 inches (8.5cm) height X 2.5 inches (6.5cm) width X 2.5/8th inches (1cm) depth approx. Overall Weight : 131.42g. A wonderful rare item. William Houghton originally established his business in 1822. By 1841, he was based at 162 Bond Street, London. It wasn’t until 1868 that he went into partnership with Charles Henry Gunn. Known as Houghton & Gunn, the business remained at the same Bond Street address until it was bought out by Asprey (its next door neighbour) in 1906. A fine late Commonwealth period silver Puritan spoon in the simple elegant style of the period. The Puritans did not approve of unnecessary ornamentation and this is reflected in the plain design and functionality of this rare survivor, which historically belongs between the earlier Seal Top and Apostle spoons, which had hexagonal stems, and the trefid spoons with their flat stems and oval bowls which came over with the Royal Court from France at the time of the Restoration. Owing to the short duration of their popularity and the scarcity of silver at this period in English history due to the demands of the war, Puritan spoons are very rare and sought after. The Spoon has the initials’RM’ engraved on the back of the stem, together with the London town mark, struck twice, and a maker’s mark TA above a mullet and two pellets, which is recorded on page 124 of Jackson’s’Silver and Gold Marks’. The date mark is worn away, and was in all probability poorly struck originally; you can see where it was on the upper stem, but only a small indent remains. There is a lovely crisp London Town mark in the bowl. This is a particularly pleasing and tactile spoon, smaller than some examples, in super collector’s condition, with no damage or repair and having a good colour. TA London 1655 – 1660. SUPERB RARE HUGE EARLY VICTORIAN SOLID STERLING CAULDRON SALT – FABULOUS FLORAL DESIGN IN REPOUSSE SILVER – 3 CLAW & BALL FEET – BLANK CARTOUCHE – HIGH QUALITY – J E TERREY & CO – LONDON 1839 – WEIGHT 148g – 1 OF 2 ON OFFER – HIGHLY COLLECTABLE! On offer is this rare, absolutely superb, huge antique solid sterling silver open cauldron salt. It is number 1 of 2 on offer in the same way. It is lavishly decorated with chased flowers and leaves, a gadrooned border, on 3 claw and ball feet, and a blank cartouche. This is a real feast for the eyes – please see the photos. The interior is of gilt. When acquired, both salts had a large blue glass liner in place, clearly not the originals as they would not have had liners. I have left them in place and shown the salts with and without. These salts are huge – please see the dimensions below – this one weighs 148g. Both are in good antique condition overall, especially considering they are nearly 200 years old. This one is a bit better and almost 30g heavier and this is reflected in the price of each. I love to wonder who the original owners of this gorgeous, extravagant piece of silver was and which table it has adorned – one of the many great joys of very old silver! It is about 6cm in height; 7.5cm in diameter across the top to the edges of the border; and has a very heavy weight of 148g. As noted, in good antique condition overall, especially considering it is nearly 200 years old, the usual signs of wear commensurate with age and use. In close detail: on this salt one of the feet is slightly pushed in to the base; there may be a little knock to the repousse underneath one of the flowers. It’s difficult to tell if this was present when it was crafted – the silver is such a thick gauge that it would be hard to dent. In any case, I’m mentioning it, and it is only noticeable on very close inspection. There are some tiny little dings/bruises to the base here and there. The gilt interior is in place and intact.
