Rare Antique African Yaka Mbwoolo Fetish Figure Congo Early to Mid 20th Century. This is an extremely rare African Yaka Mbwoolo Fetish Figure on wood stand that is painted black. It is possible that it is 19th century, but I cannot be sure. What makes this figure so rare is that the fiber and resin and colored earth are in very good condition. Most of the fetish figures that you find do not have the pouch(bonga-magic) with the power ingredients intact. These figures were used among the Yaka tribe of Zaire to support or contain special concoctions or powers. When charged with these ingredients, they become medicines-poisons that “make ill” through an invisible (supernatural) influence – or “make well” by removing this influence. Owned by specific lineages rather than individuals. The man or woman who becomes cured is entitled to become its ritual officer or nganga (‘doctor’). Mbwoolo figures are passed on from generation to generation. Provenance: Collection of Dr. Dennis Bettancourt, Los Angeles, CA. I will sell this item with these documents. This is a super sweet figure of porcelain that has the earlier ROYAL DUX of CZECHOSLOVAKIA mark. It is a porcelain figure of two parakeets. This is an original, not a later piece or a reproduction. See all photos and you can see this piece is in perfect condition! Early pink clay impressed triangle, the 1919 mark and impressed numbers. Before WW I, pink triangles were generally, but not always, left in a bisque, or unglazed, finish. Most Art Nouveau figures in matte glaze, for example, usually have bisque triangles. After WW I, Art Deco figures entirely glazed in a high gloss occasionally have glazed triangles. This figure was made in Czechoslovakia, ca. Following the end of WW I, Bohemia, the home of Royal Dux, was united with Slovakia and Moravia to form a new nation, Czechoslovakia. This change was reflected in the phrase “Made in Czechoslovakia” which appeared in Royal Dux marks around 1919 The letter E continued to be impressed in the center of the pink triangle and “Royal Dux Bohemia” impressed around the oval. This lovely piece would make a great gift for a bird lover or owner of parakeets. Very rare, you will usually find the RD Cockatoo and other birds but I have never come across another parkakeet figure. Would make a GREAT GIFT for someone who has or loves parakeets! A rare figurine of a goat made by Nymphenburg during the early to mid 20th century. Not sure what kind of goat it is as I cannot find another and it’s not even in my books which is unusual. The figure is superbly modeled with lots of detail and is hand painted to perfection as one expects from this maker. I think Nymphenburg makes the best animal figurines in the porcelain world. The piece is about 3.625 inches tall, 2.75 inches deep and 5 inches long. The piece is marked with the impressed shield mark underneath with the impressed numbers 618 over 8. The piece is in perfect condition with a couple of tiny black firing spots sometimes seen on their animal figures. Ziegenfigur German Germany 20thC.
