For sale is a spectacular late 19th century to early 20th century American tramp art miniature two over three chest of drawers with a mirrored back splash. This piece comes to us from a private estate. This piece is constructed of cigar boxes for the drawers. It has a two board backing which is all original to the piece. The construction is fine and is a wonderful example of early American tramp art work. When the drawers are pulled out you can see various stenciled markings from the different brands of cigar boxes used to construct this piece. Ce in over all good condition. We do notice some areas of loss and wear which is all age appropriate. The surface patina is all original. There’s find oxidation to the wood and the piece is in over all sturdy condition. This has wonderfully styled solid Brass pull ring handles anhandles that very well with the smooth teak veneered drawers. This unit has nicely proportioned drawers with the more slender ones in the middle. The sleek unit is then set on top of sleek teak square legs. These drawers have very strong mid century design influences and a very modern minimalistic design which is very typical of John & Sylvia Reid. Very stylish retro item with very very high end build quality. The condition of these drawers is very good. They are overall for Condition 8.5 out of 10. Very clean top and front. No broken or loose parts and have been very well looked after. Drawers all run smoothly. They have also been refinished in a combination of oils and waxes to give a deep shine to the grain. Swimming in the right direction? Extremely Rare Late 17th Early 18th Century Dutch Netherlands Marine Compass!!!! I say amaZingly because it is one of the most advanced designs of compasses for its time that I have come across! The needle is half white steel and half blackened steel, the white portion points North perhaps since Europeans are generally speaking white at that time, while the South is blackened since the south is primarily inhabited by darker folks, regardless the two different colors make it much easier and thus faster to differentiate between North and South, and the shape of the needle makes it much easier to follow even by someone with poor eye sight, extremely intelligent. Most likely created for the Dutch East India or Dutch West India Company, which could not function with-out such devices, the GPS of its time. It is the only compass I have eVer seen with a Z for south (Zuiden), which clearly and definitively indicate the compass is Dutch. The measurements of the wooden case are approximately 10.2 cm x 9.35 cm x 3.55 cm (4″ x 3 10.8/16″ x 1 6.5/16). The brass ring surrounding the compass is approximately 8.75 cm (3 7/16) in diameter. On the brass portion, the decorations, lines, and arabic numerals were all hand engraved by one of the worlds unknown but best compass makers I have eVer encountered. I have seen a Dutch? Compass, I inserted a question mark because the South was an S and not a Z, and of what I deem of much lesser quality fetch a sum of approximately 55 thousand USDs! So price-wise this beauty is a gift! The wooden case box is partially cracked on both sides, the crystal glass has some scratches as can be observed on the upper right quadrant of the second image and the upper left quadrant of the 5th image, and some points of oxidation (darker colored areas), but remains a fully functional and beautiful compass worthy of any museum! 4 Original Spanish arista tiles. 4 rare Hispano Moresque Spanish tiles, made in Seville, Spain. The decoration is made using the Arista technique, which uses relief lines to separate the different glaze colors. These tiles are made in the 16th century. Bottom right tile: Blue-framed lozenge containing large flower head. A design invented by Nicoloso Francisco, Seville C 1520. Size: 12.8 x 12.8 cm and 2.5 cm thick. Top right tile: Examples of this tile are in the Carranza collection, on view at Alcazar palace, Seville. Size: 13.4 x 13.4 cm and 2.7 cm thick. Bottom left tile: Cross-shaped interlaces with brown central star. Size: 12.2 x 12.0 cm and 2.5 cm Thick. This tile was cut to two sides before it was put on the wall. Top left: green flowers within a blue frame. Much wear on surface of this tile, probably used as floortiles. Size:12.5 x 12.5 x 1.9 cm. With damaged you can expect for tiles this age. Chips to sides and surface. Some glaze loss and scratches to glaze. In antique tiles (Medieval, Portuguese, Spanish, Delft, Art Nouveau and Art Deco) and Dutch Delftware from 17th and 18th century.
