Early 19th century Coalport lidded tureen. Ornate gilded handle/finial and gold gilding to lid and base. Unusual hand painted swan emblem to one side and an owl to the other. Some time ago, I came across the meaning of the swan which looks like it is breathing fire but annoyingly I have not been able to find it since. Dates to first half of 19th century so no backstamp. Condition is very good for age. There is a small hole in the gilding of the handle but this has been caused during manufacture. The gilding is vibrant on the lid but there is loss to the rim of the base. A small firing flaw to the base which does not affect in any way. Not perfect but almost for an item of over 150 years! How good it would be to find this set. This item is in the category “Collectables\Kitchen & Home\Dinnerware & Serveware\Tureens”. The seller is “sterling1952″ and is located in this country: GB. This item can be shipped to United Kingdom.

This is a rare and beautiful original Wemyss bowl from the first pottery in Fife Scotland. After the first world war Wemeyss ware went out of fashion. The then head designer Edwin Sandland introduced the Jazzy range in an attempt to regain business, it didn’t work and they went out of business in 1930 and moved the whole business down to Devon, this piece was made around 1920 before the move to Bovey Tracy in Devon. The fact that this range didn’t save the company gives it that rarity value. The bowl is 23 cm in diameter and 10 cm high. There is some staining to the interior, however i don’t believe that his detracts from it’s beauty, but it is reflected in the price. This rare, lovely antique French textile is in it’s original form, never washed, formerly hung as a bed curtain. All completely hand stitched in a quilted diamond pattern onto a off white muslin or thin linen cloth backing. No batting inside as this was to be displayed flat as a bed curtain or valance.
