This is a very desirable example of North Queensland Rainforest Shield production in the first half of the 20th century: lacking somewhat in overall dimensions compared to the19th c. Examples, it nevertheless has the great individualised ochre graphics which make the earliest examples so desirable. It is substantially an excellent scaled-down version, and probably now equally rare. The Length is: 15 38 cm. Condition is excellent, with the ochres stable and in good condition. This EXTREMELY RARE piece measures 13 1/4″ front to back, 14″ wide, 11″ tall and the mount side is not square and measures 14″ across top, 11 3/4″ bottom and 10 1/4″ high. A very rare early silver folding campaign fork. It is unmarked but tests as high grade silver. I do not know where it was made but would think Northern Europe – France, Belgium, Holland. It has been superbly handmade having a hinged joint allowing the fork to fold out and lock. It is in superb condition being free from dings splits and repairs and works perfectly. It measures almost 6.5 inches (16.2cms) long fully open by 0.75 inch (1.9cms) wide and weights 33 grams. A very interesting and rare piece.
