Very rare 23 Sophia Smith hairstyle China doll by Kestner. Dates from the early 1850s. She has an antique body and is wearing an antique coat dress, which is roughly from the same period within about 20 years. Please know that there is a repair to one side of her shoulderplate. Thankfully, this does not affect her beautiful face. Her dress is in remarkably good condition for the age. I love the fabric and the details. It lacks enclosures and needs to be pinned. Her body does not have any leakage. It is antique but not original to the head. Definitely appropriate and fits her well. My last image shows a picture of the same mold with brown eyes from a reference book by Mary Gorham Krombholz. I have more antique toy and doll items listed so please check out my other auctions! This is a superb rare set of 6 antique doilies/dressing table mats comprising of one large oval mat and five smaller round mats. The beadwork is incorporated into a fine cotton/linen crochet doily. The previous owner advises that these were appraised by Eric Knowles at an antiques valuation day and he suggested they may be Georgian or early Victorian. In fabulous condition for age with no obvious damage to the beadwork and no major staining only gentle signs of soiling from years of dust. As with all vintage linens please expect there may be other more minor signs of wear and the odd missing bead/broken thread. The large doily measures approx. 18″ x 15″ and the smaller ones approx. 17 Rare Early Cabinet Doll. With “Annoyed” Character Face. Original Antique Doll – Made in Germany. Bisque Head / Composition Body – Stands Approx. Marked (faintly): “Crown & Clover / L-1772 / Limbach”. Hard to Find and Displays Beautifully. This early Limbach cabinet character doll — with the distinctive eyebrows and “annoyed” facial expression — is quite rare. She is faintly impressed with the Limbach Porzellanfabrik markings: a crown, the three-leaf clover with “L” and “1772” in the leaves, and the name “Limbach” underneath it. There also appears to be a letter or number above the crown, but it is hard to make out. She has superb face painting, a lovely open mouth with teeth, and “annoyed” squinty eyes with frowning eyebrows. Her ears are not pierced. She has a very nice auburn French human-hair wig (marked “100% cheveux”) that further enhances her fiery demeanor. She is in her very old antique velvet dress, which has age issues noticeable on examination (melting, repairs — see below for details), but it just looks so perfect on her that I did not want to change it out. She also has a slip and pantaloons, as well as vintage shoes and socks. Note: Photo props not included: FRAMED PICTURE. Beautiful antique condition — from a non-smoking environment. No issues found with the bisque after careful examination. Her antique velvet dress is extremely fragile, with a bit of age fading, “melting, ” and repairs on the inside surface. These issues can be seen on close examination. See final two photos. IMPORTANT: Besides the noteworthy issues mentioned above, EXPECT any antique doll (bisque/composition/leather/china/wood) to ALSO have: (1) SIGNS OF AGE – for example: toned/crazed/chipped composition, minor wig pulls, loss of “hair” lashes on bisque heads, not-so-tight stringing, etc. (2) MINOR CONSERVATION WORK by previous owners/collectors – for example: reset eyes in most cases! , repairs to wig, repairs to clothing, touch-ups on composition/finish/paint, etc. Any MAJOR issues — hairline crack, total repaint, etc. – would be itemized above, but these normal age/conservation details are not. They are to be expected. I’LL BE GLAD TO ANSWER. Provided it’s rated the same (or faster) than the service you chose. If you live in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Israel, Japan, Netherlands, Norway, or U. Message me to see whether there may be a cheaper alternative using Priority Post — depending on the size and value of your parcel. And provided the items can travel safely in the same box. WHAT, NOTHING TO COMBINE! ? (opens in a separate window/tab)… Where you’ll find more top-quality antiques/collectibles/artwork/dolls/and more! Significantly not as described: A. Flaw or discrepancy vs. What was stated in the listing. As often happens, it’s the few bad apples out there who ruin it for the rest of us. Not knowing what they’re doing. And then, when they realize they’ve ruined the doll, they return it saying it was defective. BUT HAVING SAID ALL THAT.. I do bend over backwards, attempting to disclose any noteworthy condition issues I can find or think of. But these are antique and vintage dolls — so, please understand that they won’t be in brand-new condition. There will always be some minor indication of their age, and it would be impossible to itemize every single pinhead-size stain on the outfit, or hairline scratch on the body. Please expect these types of conditions with old dolls. IT CONTAINS VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION.
