THIS WONDERFUL PAIR OF BUTTONS ARE MADE TO PAY TRIBUTE TO THE MAIN CHARACTERS ROSINA AND BELVILLE IN THE 1782 COMIC OPERA BY WILLIAM SHIELD. MOST LIKELY MADE FOR THE TOURIST TRADE ON THE PALAIS ROYAL IN PARIS, FRANCE. ITS VERY RARE TO FIND THESE BUTTONS STILL AS A PAIR, OR NOT CONVERTED INTO BROOCHES BECAUSE OF THEIR LARGE SIZE. THE FIRST LAYER IS EMBOSSED SILVER FOIL, THE NEXT LAYER IS DELICATELY CUT OUT BLUE SILK THAT ALMOST RESEMBLES LITTLE CROSSES, AND THEN FINALLY A REVERSE PAINTED GLASS SCENE THAT SUGGESTS THAT IT MY BE A MOURNING BUTTON FROM THE SUBJECT MATTER. IT APPEARS TO BE A WEEPING WILLOW TREE, NEAR A FENCE, THAT MAY BE A GRAVE SITE OR MEMORIAL OF SOME KIND. THERE ARE ALSO TINY GOLD LEAF ROSETTES REVERSE PAINTED ON THE GLASS, MOST OF WHICH HAVE DISCOLORED OVER TIME. THE BUTTON IS IN OVERALL VERY GOOD CONDITION, THE GLASS HAS NO CHIPS OR CRACKS, BUT THERE IS SOME LOSE TO THE REVERSE PAINTED SCENE. SOME OF THE PAINT HAS FLAKED AWAY. RARE Fine Pair Meiji Early Japanese Silver Wire Cloisonne Enamel Vases -Geishas. A very beautiful antique Rare Pair Early Meiji cloisonne vases. The plentiful colors are brilliant and gold and silver wire detail is outstanding. The ground color is uncommon and beautiful. I would call it a yellow-green, if that helps. These vases are very, very old, exhibit very high standard of fine Japanese hand craftsmanship. From the early, early Meiji Period, the cloison detail work in gold an silver wire was certainly performed by a master of Japanese cloisonne. These antique vases are in excellent original condition. No evidence of trauma, but some hairline cracks can be seen in photos. I believe these are from age or the period made. Some normal wear to base. Vases display very beautifully. The recurring white spot is flash off high gloss finish. These may not be shiny and perfect like the newer ones, but these are the’real deal’, if you like very old, original pieces. And they are beautiful. Approximate size is 6 tall. Please see photos as an integral part of this description. Sometimes the camera catches what I don’t. Please ask any questions. Rare Mated Pair Antique Late 18th Early 19th Century Oil Portrait Paintings. For sale is a very rare & stunning pair of antique oil paintings that are on linen/canvas and were expertly painted by an unsigned artist. High gloss varnish finish. Overall decent condition with expected crazing, occasional holes and paint loss. The frames were recently re-glued and the areas with missing paint touched up. These are definitely not museum pieces. But they are nevertheless beautiful and pleasant. Each measure approximately 27 inches wide by 32 1/4 inches tall by 1 1/2 inches deep.
