RARE PAIR OF EARLY 19TH CENTURY FRENCH ENAMEL PORTRAIT BUTTONS, ROSINA & BELVILLE, IN LEATHER PRESENTATION CASE. PLUS RARE 18TH CENTURY FRENCH FOIL AND SILK , REVERSE PAINTED GLASS BUTTON. HELLO , THIS LISTING IS FOR A RARE PAIR OF EARLY 19TH CENTURY FRENCH ENAMEL BUTTONS, ROSINA & BELVILLE, IN LATER FRENCH VICTORIAN LEATHER PRESENTATION CASE. THIS WONDERFUL PAIR OF BUTTONS ARE MADE TO PAY TRIBUTE TO THE MAIN CHARACTERS ROSINA AND BELVILLE IN THE 1782 COMIC OPERA BY WILLIAM SHIELD. MOST LIKELY MADE FOR THE TOURIST TRADE ON THE PALAIS ROYAL IN PARIS, FRANCE. ITS VERY RARE TO FIND THESE BUTTONS STILL AS A PAIR, OR NOT CONVERTED INTO BROOCHES BECAUSE OF THEIR LARGE SIZE. THEY COME FROM A LARGE COLLECTION OWNED BY MY GREAT, GREAT AUNT, AND SHE WAS A VERY SERIOUS COLLECTOR IN THE 1930’S & 40’S. SHE ONLY COLLECTED THE MOST RARE AND UNUSUAL EXAMPLES FOR HER COLLECTION. IT WAS LOT # 412. AND READS: PAIR FRENCH ENAMELED BUTTONS EARLY XIX CENTURY. OVAL SHAPE WITH PAINTED PORTRAIT INSCRIBED ” ROSINA AND BELVILLE”. THE PORTRAITS ARE CHARMING, WITH AN ALMOST FOLK ART QUALITY TO THEM. THEY COME HOUSED IN THIS LOVELY FRENCH VICTORIAN ERA LEATHER PRESENTATION CASE, THAT MY GREAT AUNT HAD CUSTOM FITTED JUST TO DISPLAY THEM. THE TOP INSIDE BACK IS ORIGINAL FROM THE 1860’S, THE FITTED BOTTOM MOST LIKELY DONE IN THE 1940’S. THEY ARE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION, WITH JUST THE NORMAL WEAR FROM AGE. THERE IS THE EXPECTED LIGHT CRAZING TO THE ENAMEL, AND THE BRASS FRAMES TARNISHED FROM AGE. THERE ARE CRIMPS TO THE BRASS FRAMES, AS SEEN IN THE PHOTOS, BUT THIS IS NOT DAMAGE, JUST WHAT NATURALLY OCCURS WHEN THE FRAMES ARE FITTED AROUND THE BUTTON BACKS. THE BACKS OF THE BUTTONS HAVE THE EXPECTED AGE RELATED DISCOLORATION AS SEEN IN THE PHOTO. THEY ARE JUST OVER 2 INCHES HIGH X 1 1 / 2 INCHES WIDE. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE PARKE BERNET CATALOG PICTURED IS JUST TO SUBSTANCIATE PROVENANCE AND IS NOT INCLUDED WITH THE SALE. JUST THE CUT OUT LISTING FOR THE BUTTONS. A WONDERFUL PAIR OF MUSEUM QUALITY BUTTONS. ALSO INCLUDED WITH THIS SALE AS A BONUS ITEM, IS THIS RARE 18TH CENTURY, CIRCA 1760 – 80, FRENCH REVERSE PAINTED GLASS BUTTON. THIS BUTTON IS VERY COMPLEX IN THAT IT HAS SEVERAL DIFFERENT LAYERS THAT MAKE IT UP. THE FIRST LAYER IS EMBOSSED SILVER FOIL, THE NEXT LAYER IS DELICATELY CUT OUT BLUE SILK THAT ALMOST RESEMBLES LITTLE CROSSES, AND THEN FINALLY A REVERSE PAINTED GLASS SCENE THAT SUGGESTS THAT IT MY BE A MOURNING BUTTON FROM THE SUBJECT MATTER. IT APPEARS TO BE A WEEPING WILLOW TREE, NEAR A FENCE, THAT MAY BE A GRAVE SITE OR MEMORIAL OF SOME KIND. THERE ARE ALSO TINY GOLD LEAF ROSETTES REVERSE PAINTED ON THE GLASS, MOST OF WHICH HAVE DISCOLORED OVER TIME. THE BUTTON IS IN OVERALL VERY GOOD CONDITION, THE GLASS HAS NO CHIPS OR CRACKS, BUT THERE IS SOME LOSE TO THE REVERSE PAINTED SCENE. SOME OF THE PAINT HAS FLAKED AWAY. ITS SIZE IS 1 3 / 8 INCHES IN DIAMETER, IT HAS A BRASS PLATED COPPER RIM, AND HAS A STEEL BACK. THIS IS A BONUS TO THE SALE ONLY, AND NOT CONSIDERED IN THE SALE PRICE AT ALL. SO THE CONDITION IS AS IS. ANOTHER FABULOUS AND RARE BUTTON FOR YOUR COLLECTION. THANK YOU FOR LOOKING! My personal standards are high , so I strive to research , describe and picture all items in my auctions as accurately as possible. Most items are vintage or antique and therefore normal ware from age and use is to be expected. RARE Pair Meiji Early Japanese Gold /Silver Wire Cloisonne Enamel Vases -Geishas
RARE Fine Pair Meiji Early Japanese Silver Wire Cloisonne Enamel Vases -Geishas. A very beautiful antique Rare Pair Early Meiji cloisonne vases. The plentiful colors are brilliant and gold and silver wire detail is outstanding. The ground color is uncommon and beautiful. I would call it a yellow-green, if that helps. These vases are very, very old, exhibit very high standard of fine Japanese hand craftsmanship. From the early, early Meiji Period, the cloison detail work in gold an silver wire was certainly performed by a master of Japanese cloisonne. These antique vases are in excellent original condition. No evidence of trauma, but some hairline cracks can be seen in photos. I believe these are from age or the period made. Some normal wear to base. Vases display very beautifully. The recurring white spot is flash off high gloss finish. These may not be shiny and perfect like the newer ones, but these are the’real deal’, if you like very old, original pieces. And they are beautiful. Approximate size is 6 tall. Please see photos as an integral part of this description. Sometimes the camera catches what I don’t. Please ask any questions. From my own personal collection, these fine vases would be an excellent addition to your own cloisonne collection. All reasonable offers considered. Please check my other auctions. I pack very promptly and securely. The item “RARE Pair Meiji Early Japanese Gold /Silver Wire Cloisonne Enamel Vases -Geishas” is in sale since Saturday, September 14, 2019. Antique French WOOD PEDIMENT ARCHITECTURAL Salvage WALNUT VENEER PROBABLY 19Th. This vintage French wooden Faux Bamboo wall mirror green painted. The wooden frame is carved to resemble bamboo, a design very much in vogue in the early 1900s-1920s France. The pieces have the perfect size to hang just about anywhere. Measuring approximately 20 1/2 by 171/4 at its widest (the mirror itself is 1340 by 10). One is authentically old, the reflective coating of the mirror has a few tiny black age spots and very limited surface scratching, nothing really shocking considering its advanced age (a date in the back: see close up). The other is very recent; he had to be replaced. The frame earned some marks and an attractive green color with age. This vintage mirror will just lend an instant touch of French authenticity to any room décor or bathroom with its antique feel and superb Faux Bamboo design painted. ARCHITECTURAL PEDIMENT / DECORATIVE ART / HOME & DECOR Please see the many photographs for more on the look and condition of these fine pair, as they are an important part of the description.
