Rare Historic Early Harappan Terracotta Zebu Bull Figurine 3200-2600 B. C
Posted by admin On May 14, 2023
RARE SUBSTANTIAL HISTORIC INDUS VALLEY EARLY HARAPPAN TERRACOTTA ZEBU BULL FIGURINE. In “original” excavated none cleaned condition! Please view my other items! Weight – 73.8 grams. Size – 7.5 cm. Polychrome Indus Valley terracotta statuette of a Zebu bull. The animal is depicted in a naturalistic manner, with eyes, large hump and tall antlers. The anatomical features are emphasized by stripes of black pigmentation. The Indus Valley Civilisation extended from what today is north east Afghanistan to Pakistan and north west India. It was one of three early and widespread cradles of civilisation along with Ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia. At its peak, the Indus Valley Civilisation, which included such sites as Harappa and Mohenjo-Daro, may have had a population of over five million, who developed new techniques in pottery, seal carving, and metallurgy. The Indus Valley statuettes are known to be quite detailed and realistically shaped. On top of anatomically depicted anthropomorphic statuettes, bulls and elephants were among the most represented both as figurines and pottery’s decorations. Harappan people produced a large number of terracotta figurines, which were handmade. Terracottas were made up of fire baked earthen clay which came to be called as Terracotta Figurines. They were either used as toys or objects of worship. Harappa is an archaeological site in Punjab, Pakistan, about 24 km (15 mi) west of Sahiwal. The site takes its name from a modern village located near the former course of the Ravi River which now runs 8 km (5.0 mi) to the north. The current village of Harappa is less than 1 km (0.62 mi) from the ancient site. Although modern Harappa has a legacy railway station from the British Raj period, it is a small crossroads town of 15,000 people today. This item is in the category “Antiques\Other Antiques”. A Rare Very Early Antique Noritake Twin Handled Lidded Floral Pastel Vase c1902

A Rare Very Early Antique Noritake Twin Handled Lidded Floral Pastel Vase c1902. A beautiful and very rare, early Noritake twin-handled, lidded floral vase bearing the single blue Noritake Komura mark to the base, dating the vase to >1902. The vase is of a beautiful four-footed pedestal form with twin open-top handles and lid with pointed finial. The vase is intricately hand-decorated with pink, purple and yellow blossoms with foliage and beautiful gilt beading and scrollwork on a white and turquoise ground. A really wonderful, early collector’s item. The vase is in quite remarkable condition with no chips or cracks to the body even the handles are good! But there is a little rubbing to the gilt around the topmost rim. The lid has been broken but professionally restored with the damage almost invisible to the outward facing area. A really good piece of restoration. Please see photographs for more information. The vase is 33cm high (including lid), 14cm diameter, 1063g weight. 1912 Rare Royal Doulton Square Vase Dutch Scene Ethel Beard & Leslie Harradine
Posted by admin On May 13, 2023
1912 Rare Royal Doulton Square Vase Dutch Scene. Ethel Beard & Leslie Harradine. Tube Lined Scene of Dutch’Goose-Girl’ Fully Impressed Inc AH Incised. AH – Ada Tosen, Senior Assistant at Royal Doulton. This a very rare and very valuable Royal Doulton vase of square form, that is then tube lined to create a scene of a Dutch girl rounding up a goose from the lightly wooded field. It is a most attractive vase and the two main panels are highlighted against a classic Doulton blue green glazed ground, a short run of an incredible Arts & Crafts piece, that for every successful vase were several firing failures, as each piece went under several firings to such fine vases. This vase was created at a time when Continental Art Nouveau had a short lived influence before Doulton found their own expression, their own Art Nouveau style. Very few survived the manufacturing process and even fewer survived the 110 years since it went on sale for less than 12 months, before the outbreak of WW1 stopped most manufacturing that was not war effort focussed, or the production staff were not called up to fight or work on supplying the frontline. These amazing pieces of art were designed and produced by Ethel Beard and Leslie Harradine, two of the very great names at Royal Doulton, assisted by one of the Senior Assistants Ada Tosen. Ada worked as an assistant to some of the great early names of Doulton, from about 1880 to about the 1920s. This significant and amazing vase was as a result of such wonderful partnerships being at Doulton, prior to WW1, and this is one of their best pieces in my opinion. The vase is approx. 21.5cms tall, approx. 16cms wide and approx. 10cms deep, being in amazing condition, which is remarkable for a vase of 110 years old, a true and rare antique that is highly collectable. I cannot honestly see any restorations or repairs and the impressed marks on the base are correct. The most wonderful of decorations and it needs a home that can admire and protect it in equal measures. The pictures do not do it justice at all, but are important to show the condition. This item is in the category “Pottery, Ceramics & Glass\Decorative Pottery, Ceramics & Glass\Vases”. The seller is “curiouscatcollectables” and is located in this country: GB.
