RARE E. Cotterill Heavy Duty Padlock & KEY. Unpickable 1800’s. Plus 4 Other Keys
Posted by admin On July 10, 2023
This is a rather special find. It is a large and heavy Victorian padlock made by E. They were mainly known for making highly secure safes but also made these as well. Very occasionally they become available but without a key which wouldn’t be of much use! Usually they are only seen in collections or museums. Dimensions – It weighs an impressive 965 g, about 2.1 lbs. It is 5 1/4 ” long closed, 6 ” open. It is 3 1/8 ” wide at its widest, 2 1/4 ” at its narrowest. The body is 7/8 ” thick and the hasp is 5/8 ” thick. Also included are 4 smaller keys and a’lost & found’ tag from a company in Newport, Monmouthshire all of which are on a heavy duty key ring. For those of you who, like us, are a little older you will remember that these companies set themselves up all over the country and if found you sent it back to the company and the gave you 5/- / 25 p. We hope that we have described it fully but if there is any other information you would like please just ask. Please look at the photographs carefully as this is the item that you will receive (with apologies for any reflection). Apologies, but because of ill health we are unable to post every day. We hope that our customers will understand, Nigel & Jacky.

Rare! Complete! Antique 18th C Tinder Box Striker Flint Early American
Posted by admin On July 9, 2023
For sale is a RARE early American antique tinder box with its complete assembly of fire starting tools (a flint rock, a iron striker, and some tinder fiber). The box was hand hammered and formed with wrought iron by highly skilled blacksmith in the 1700s. This tinder box is a essential tool carried by colonial American pioneers to kindle fire in the wilderness and to start a fire for a primitive hearth. This particular box is in round form with domed sides. It measures approximately 3″ by 2.5″, 1.25 thick. The lid snaps shut properly with all content inside. The hinge is sturdy. There are two small holes on the lid and some metal wrinkles around. Did a bullet bounced off it and saves the owner’s life? We will never know. Overall, a rare example of colonial American pioneer’s tinder box that should not be passed by any serious collectors of early Americana /colonial tools/ wrought iron antiquities. Some imperfection but certainly authentic! Feel free to check out my other antique and collectible listings.

Rare Antique c1916 Wedgwood Arthur Powell Signed Hand Painted Jug Pitcher Ewer. Octagonal in shape with 8 characterful stags and does all in different poses set against a backdrop of blue mountains. Above is a garland of green and blue vines. There are no chips and the glazing is very clean and uncrazed. Only flaw is a small hairline crack to the base of the handle as per final photo. 15.25cm high x 16cm spout to handle; 522g. This shop is to help me increase my knowledge and help homeless pre-loved vintage items find a new forever home and survive a bit longer to be appreciated by future generations. I’m not here to rip people off or make a quick buck so if you have a problem I will always try to sort it out quickly and fairly so we can part as friends and you’ll feel safe to come back. Please read the description and look at the photos as I try to document all features and any damage. Terms like “excellent” or “very good condition” are subjective but I mean for their age and consistent with normal use. For example, it is unreasonable to expect a 1930s household item to be immaculate but if it is I will describe it as immaculate or mint. In the unlikely event that on receipt of your item, you are not completely satisfied please do not hesitate to contact me so that we can resolve the problem. My promise to you. I list items as accurately as I can; if I can see an item isn’t perfect I’ll say so in the description. Please bear in mind, my items are vintage and so will show some wear typical of their age. For example having movement scratches or scuffs underneath. I research every piece using books, catalogues and the internet but I’m not an expert on everything by any means and collecting vintage glass is my hobby not my profession, so if you think I have misdescribed something please let me know so I can learn from you and change the listing. All fragile items will be sent in sturdy boxes wrapped in bubble wrap paddled out with void paper. I know how disappointing it is when an item arrives broken. Please get in touch if you have a problem and take some photos of the damage. More expensive items are sent tracked and insured for my protection and yours. This is a non smoking home – but not pet free. Random dogs may find their way into photos and these are not included in the sale!
