SCARCE EARLY to MID 20TH CENTURY AME RI CAN ANTIQUE PRIMITIVE HAND CARVED CHESTNUT WOODEN ROPE BED TIGHTENER, with 2-PIECE CONSTRUCTION, FEATURING DOWELED. HANDLED & SPOKED, TOOTHED TURNIN G. END & ROPE CLASP. [2-piece construction with doweled handle removable from main wooden shaft]. Early to mid 19th century Ame ri can antique New England hand carved chestnut wood bet tighteners. 17 1/2″ Height x 13 1/2″ Width (handle). Body: 2″ Width x 2 1/4″ Depth. Bottom spoked end: 3″ Height x 3/4″ gap Width. Offered for your review and consideration is this early to mid 19th century Ame ri can antique primitive hand carved chestnut rope bed tightener or bed screw turn. It was recently discovered here in southern New Hampshire during an estate clean-out of an early residence with an attached barn and carriage sheds. It is a true New England primitive hand tool, completely fashioned by hand and made from local chestnut wood, once prevalent in the northeast and found all over New England before it suffered blight. The rope bed turn screw is comprised of two parts, the carved chestnut, sturdy doweled handle which inserts into the main, spoked end chestnut shaft. The’T’ shaped design would allow the user to insert the key onto the looped rope in the rope bed’s side board and turn it, tightening it to give better support to the goose feather down or straw filled linen mattresses of that era. The beds would have carved wood nuts to hold them into the newly tightened position. Good to Very Good overall antique condition. This item is in the category “Antiques\Primitives”. The seller is “modsanctuary” and is located in this country: US. This item can be shipped worldwide.

[Found in southern New Hampshire and most likely an early New Hampshire paint decorated pine box and not an early Maine paint decorated pine box, due to the delicate & fine nature of its paint decoration & refined features]. Early to mid 19th century New Hampshire paint decorated, early pine wooden boxes, trunks & other decorative wooden accessories. 13 1/4″ Width x 8 1/4″ Depth x 6 Height. Estate fresh and in simply extraordinary condition. Early New England, antique hand decorated, painted wooden pine boxes don’t come much better than this. Estate fresh, 100%, absolutely untouched and as it was when it was discovered in the early post and beam southern New Hampshire estate it was removed from. According to family sources, this and many of the other antique items found in the same home, were there for as long as any of the descendants could remember. The pine box features old ox blood, chalky red painted exterior finish, featuring combed, squiggly charcoal black decorated, repeating motif, with original rear, early wire lid hinges and original front lock assembly, with black enamel painted cut, flat stock tin key escutcheon. A simply extraordinary early New England primitive painted artifact in just gorgeous paint. Most likely made in New Hampshire between 1825 to 1850. Probably a New Hampshire hand decorated, painted early pine box and not a Maine one, due to the delicate, dainty quality of the paint decoration and refined form of the diminutive box. Very Good to Excellent overall antique condition. Only the left interior pine wooden lid slat’hold’ was snapped off at its mid-section at some previous juncture in time. Nothing has been done to the box to remedy this isolated damage to the box, which is now anywhere from 175 to nearly 200 years old. A truly exceptional, extraordinary New England primitive and early Ame ri can antique. Perhaps for those who truly understand the distinct and clear difference between a Datsun and a Lexus or between a Volkswagon and a Porsche, if you prefer the Ger ma ny analogy over the Jap an ese one. RARE EARLY-MID 19TH CENTURY AME RI CAN ANTIQUE TOOLED, HAND-CUT, HAMMERED & SOLDERED HANGING TIN MATCH HOLDER, W/LOWER COMPARTMENT, DECORATED W/ BUNDLE OF WHEAT/6-POINTED. [Evidence previous mustard yellow painted surfaces]. Early-mid 19th century Ame ri can antique primitive hand tooled tinware & decorative metalware. 8″ Height x 5″ Width x 1 34 Depth. Found here in New England in southern New Hampshire. It remains as it was discovered in the southern New Hampshire 18th century, early post and chestnut beam barn, still hanging by an old plastered wall, where it had hung on an upright beam on a cut nail in a small room with a wood stove, earlier used as a workshop. It remains as it was found, with remnants and evidence of having been previously decorated with mustard yellow paint. It’s unclear if this painted surface had completely failed and was at some point dry-scrapped to reveal the hand tooled edges and especially the hand tooled image of the Star of David nestled among a bundle of wheat in the center of the tin match holder’s back wall. It’s perforated at the top with a drilled hole, where it was designed to hang on a nail on a wall or beam. The upper perimeter of the piece is hand cut and has a distinctive floral design profile, with hammered, tooled slots that were struck at an angle, populating its curvilinear edges. The interior of the back tin sidewall is decorated with a tooled, relaxed bundle of wheat grass with a distinctive and singular 6-pointed Star of David nestled among the stalks of wheat in the center. This no doubt was a reference to scripture and to the Old Testament, where scripture informed nearly every resident of late 18th and 19th century early New England and often decorative accessories, such as this, visually referenced scripture and in this case The Star of David, which much like the matches (strikes) it would have contained, would shed much needed spiritual light on their hard-scrabble, meager early New England, rural existences, especially in the trying, often disease ridden cold, winter months, where literally survival and not much else, was the primary concern. An early New England cultural artifact from pre-Civil War New Hampshire. Good to Very Good overall antique condition. 100% original antique condition. The item “RARE EARLY-MID 19TH C AMERICAN ANTIQUE TOOLED TIN MATCH HOLDER, WHEAT/STAR DAVID” is in sale since Saturday, April 4, 2020. This item is in the category “Antiques\Primitives”. EARLY to MID 19TH CENTURY ANTIQUE AME RI CAN LARGE 9 HAND PAINTED, DECORATED TIN TOLEWARE BOX, with DOME LID, LOOPED. WIRE LID PULL & FULL FRONT. Early to mid 19th century Ame ri can antique decorated toleware boxes & decorative accessories. 5 34″ Height x 8 34 ” Width x 4 34 Depth. Weight: 14.2 oz. For sale is this quite nice and quite well-preserved early to mid-19th century Ame ri can antique decorated toleware tin lidded box, with looped wire lid pull and intact front tin clasp assembly. The tin was recently discovered here in southern New Hampshire and remains in’as-found,’ untouched and undisturbed original antique condition. There’s some expected slight, very minor scuffs and/or abrasions to the tin’s surface, where there are only very minor dots of interruptions to the mainly black paint. The hand painted floral motif in orange and green over gold or what was once putty white however, is largely and thankfully mostly intact. The tin itself doesn’t suffer from any significant dings, dents or deformities. The tin dome lidded box is complete, with all of its original component parts. It’s rare to find these scarce, hard-to-find early tin toleware boxes in this kind of untouched condition, with frankly this much paint on them and with only some minor spots of missing black enamel paint. Often they’re in-painted or entirely repainted, destroying their antique pedigree and authenticity and forever altering their original surfaces. This one clearly, fortunately escaped the trials and tribulations of life and the merciless, unsympathetic machinations of time. Good to Very Good overall antique condition. No attempt has been made to repair,’in-paint’ or to conceal any of the very minor damage or tiny spots of loss of principally black enamel paint. This early to mid-19th century hand decorated antique Ame ri can tin toleware box is in absolutely, 100% untouched, undisturbed, original antique condition. Early-Mid 1800's Large American Tiger Maple Candle Storage Box, Rare
Welcome to Antiques & Moore! This listing is for a gorgeous American hand made early-mid 1800’s tiger maple candle storage box. The body of the box is made of 3/4 thick, solid tiger maple wood with rich, mellow coloration and prominent graining. The box is a larger size than normally found and has a dovetailed construction with wide bordered chamfered sliding top with locking mechanism. The key hole has a brass edge and we do have a working key which may or may not be original to the box. The wide dovetails are set far apart which is generally a sign of older construction. Candle boxes are generally rectangular boxes with tight fitting sliding lids and were generally made from less expensive woods as they were made to be utilitarian storage boxes used to protect candles from rodents. This box was definitely made by a very talented wood worker possibly as a gift for a special person due to its construction details and use of a more desirable wood than normally used. Measures 15″ long, 8″ wide and 6 deep. Weighs 6.3 pounds. This unusual tiger maple box is in excellent Estate condition with no noted flaws reflecting only minor signs of normal wear.
