Rare Antique Elm Knee-hole Bureau, Country style / late 18th c / early 19th c

Rare , Solid Elm throughout , Antique , Attractive and Characterful Knee-Hole Fall-front Bureau. Elm pieces of this age are uncommon. Constructed from well figured elm planks with single planking to either side and top. Having a good colour and well cared for patina. Country/ Vernacular in style. Thought to be late 18th early 19th C. The fall-front supported by 2 sliding support rails revealing a fitted interior with 2 drawers and pigeon-holes. Central draw with brass handles, associated brass escutcheons. Door fronted cupboards to either side of the knee-hole each with a midway shelf. Some slight historic warping to drawer and fall front section , but in sellers opinion adds to the charm and character. No key to locks , (fall front , drawer and cupboards not lockable). Some historic and extinct furniture beetle activity to lining of the drawer and treated as a precautionary measure. Small imperfections commensurate with age. Please scrutinise the photos as these form a good part of the description. Please note that I have no facilities to wrap / pack prior to dispatch. For your consideration are a pair of rare and early Eero Saarinen for Knoll side chairs. These early production examples are evidenced by the unusual base structure and “Knoll Associates” label on the underside. The earliest of these chairs featured a single base on an aluminum frame with a parallel bar structure; the design was soon changed to feature two sets of legs on a chromed frame. This early example also has a fiberglass interior shell; modern production chairs have been changed to a plastic shell due to environmental concerns. Here is a chance to own a piece of design history from one of the masters of mid century design. The chairs reflect Saarinen’s graceful and organic style. One can see the same shape in these chairs as is reflected in his architecture, including iconic buildings such as the TWA terminal at JFK and the St. The upholstery is not original. This beautiful bear is 19 tall, combo stuffed with excelsior and kapok and has a hump back. Her long, gold mohair coverage is excellent. Black boot button eyes. Venus holds Cupids chariot as he breaks his bow. This superb early Victorian period genuine Wedgwood jasperware pendant is made of solid 9 carat gold, with gold dual chain drop and seed pearl accents. An allegory of love, Cupid is seen breaking his bow as its no longer needed (the wearer has found love) and Venus, goddess of long term devotion, waits to take over. The detail is quite amazing as the piece is a wonderfully wearable small size. Cupids classical shell chariot is drawn by two lions – each separately depicted rather than duplicated, in an example of extremely high quality artistry. It dates from around 1850 and is in very good, fully wearable condition, with a shallow chip to the front of the panel at 11.00 – not easily noticed. It weighs 4.3 grams, its drop is just shy of 2 inches and the jasperware panel is 27 x 20 mm.. The final photo shows it with a US penny (1 cent) coin for scale, which measures 19 mm / ¾ of an inch diameter. The hinged case back opens, closes and secures properly. The case has a very light patina and light wear throughout, as pictured. The silver dial has large Roman numerals, purple whip hands and no seconds hand. The dial has light aging and wear for it’s age. The crystal is in good condition. Here is a very early and special teddy bear. Characteristics of Bing, and Steiff like feet and arms, further study shows that the bear most resembles bears from the German company Kohler and Rosewald formed in 1909, in Nuremberg. The bear is believed to be one of their early bears, with the very large feet and hands, thicker ankles, long claws, and extra-long extremities. The linen pads are original. The bear is stuffed with excelsior, and has a remarkable intact muzzle and shape, large glass eyes and a very prominent hump. Bear is all original in good condition with some thinning to the mohair and a couple holes in the linen pads.
