RARE ANTIQUE BOHEMIA ROYAL DUX FIGURAL CERAMIC CLAM SHELL GIRL NYMPH ART NOUVEAU. This very special 16 figurine is made by ROYAL DUX BOHEMIA. There are many models I have seen in my research but few come near to this beauty, especially in height because of the raised twin pedestal. The alluring nymph – woman is set on the edge of a beautiful conch shell which has all the characteristics of a natural shell with the colour and the curled edges. She is very appealingly leaning over making a fine picturesque stance. The shape of her head and hair is especially lovely with the hand painted features on her face especially fine. Her clothes cover her hardly concealing her beautiful shape and drape, melding seamlessly with the coral pillars. I have yet to find one so tall.. Set on what looks like a coral with flora and fauna. MEASUREMENTS: HEIGHT 16″ x WIDTH 10 1/2 x 7 1/2″ DEEP. CONDITION: NO DAMAGE OR CHIPS. Commensurate with age. I FOUND THIS ON GOOGLE.. The Dux (Duchcov) factory was established in 1853. Seven years passed without apparent successes. The firm just produced utility porcelain. In 1860 it was bought by Eduard Eichler. The new owner named it Eduard Eichler Thonwaren-Fabrik. The factory started to imitate designs by Copenhagen, Worcester and Sevrés. They were succesful winning even Silver Medal at the Paris exhibition. Eduard Eichler died in 1887. Next three years the company was run by his widow. Her son-in-law, Wilhelm Hans, bought it in 1890. He further developed the factory and in 1897 tarnsformed it into a stock corporation Duxer Porzellanmanufaktur A. The company was rewarded the Grand Prix prize at the world exhibition in St. The company had difficulties to continue production during WWI. They weren’t able to keep prewar quality. Another blow for the company was the Great Depression. After World War II German workers had to leave Czechoslovakia. In 1992 the name of the factory in Duchcov was changed to Porcelánová Manufaktura Royal Dux Bohemia A. Since 1997 it is a part of the “Ceský Porcelán” group. I try to describe all the items as accurately and as honestly as possible, and I always include photos or scans of the actual items. My items are usually vintage or antique, very rarely new, and condition will sometimes reflect this with minor marks, wear on gilding etc. Anything major such as cracks chips or major loss of gilding etc will be pointed out in the description and shown on the photos. If you are still unsure as to the condition etc. International buyers please note. Rare George I Hanoverian pattern basting spoon Zacariah Williams Plymouth c1718
A rare and wonderful George I Hanoverian pattern West Country silver basting spoon with a rat tail. The spoon is struck with the maker’s mark only, the Britannia Standard silver mark for Zacariah Williams of Plymouth, which he entered in 1717. Contemporary block initials’D over H. S’ to the reverse of the terminal. A heavy, tactile and pleasing spoon and a very rare collector’s piece. Britannia silver is an alloy of silver containing 11 ounces and 10 pennyweight silver in the pound troy, equivalent to 95.83% by weight silver, the balance being usually copper. This higher standard of silver content of 958 parts per thousand was introduced in England by Act of Parliament in 1697 to replace sterling silver (92.5% silver) as the obligatory standard for items of “wrought plate”. The lion passant gardant hallmark denoting sterling was replaced with “the figure of a woman commonly called Britannia”, and the leopard’s head mark of the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths replaced with a “lion’s head erased”. Britannia standard silver was introduced as part of the great recoinage scheme of William III from 1696, when attempts were made to limit the clipping and melting of sterling silver coinage. A higher standard for wrought plate meant that sterling silver coins could not easily be used as a source of raw material because additional fine silver, which was in short supply at the time, would have to be added to bring the purity of the alloy up to the higher standard. Britannia silver is considerably softer than sterling, and after complaints from the trade sterling silver was authorised again for use by silversmiths from 1 June 1720, and thereafter Britannia silver has remained an optional standard for hallmarking in the United Kingdom and Ireland. The spoon is in super collector’s condition with really good definition to the maker’s mark, the inscribed initials, the rat tail and the terminal. Some wear from use to the leading edge of the bowl. Zacariah Williams Plymouth c 1718 Miles Harrison p294. I have many stunning pieces of collector’s silver in my shop, please look at my other items. I aim only to list antique silver items that are without damage, repair, alteration or undue wear. My silver pieces are ideal as special gifts, for collectors, for investors, or for resale by dealers. I provide clear descriptions and photos. The silver is photographed in flat natural light, but silver is so reflective that black spots from the camera and other reflections are sometimes unavoidable. Please check the dimensions of the object carefully as apparent size can be deceptive. Bank details provided on request. Sizes, weights etc are all approximate. Antique Rare Late 18th Early 19th Century Irish Cut Lead Crystal Port Glasses
For your perusal I have listed a very rare. Period antique late 18th / early 19th century heavy diamond cut and faceted Irish lead crystal port glasses of which because of their style and the techniques used in their overall presentation most probably originate from the Tyrone glassworks from between c1790 – c1810. Sets like these are very, very rare to find today in this particular condition. The style of these port glasses is very reminiscent of the rarest piece of Irish lead crystal glass known today, that being the Tyrone? Chalice which is purported to have been produced between 1790 – 1800. As you can see via the pictures listed of this set each glass was hand worked in heavy lead content crystal glass, the ovoid bodies topped with a smooth rim were heavily cut with a diamond facet configuration almost likened to a hob nail effect pattern the underside of each bowl was triple stepped cut, down to a octagon cut stem flaring to an octagon cut and faceted foot of which is of the slight lemon squeezer variety with a slightly hollowed base only the outer edge of the underside of the foot being cut. Each of the glasses all have signs of slight inclusions either carbon deposits or tiny air bubbles internally. Each of the glasses weight and dimensions are. 1 332g by 108mm x 73mm. 2 348g by 111mm x 74mm. 3 354g by 110mm x 75mm. 4 362g by 108mm x 74mm. 5 372g by 113mm x 73mm. 6 377g by 112mm x 75mm. General Condition of this very old Set is excellent with only one small rim chip to one glass which does not affect the top of the rim surface, the extreme high points to the body diamond cutting on all glasses have received over the years small chipping, this is to be expected with this type of cutting. If any item has a obvious fault then I have mentioned it. I ask that you read the description and examine the photos carefully. I will also just say that recently I took some detailed pictures of the set to an international Antiques Fair, to get an appraisal from a reputable dealer of such early Irish crystal. But can be easily accessed to view by anyone, by just surfing the web for the Project Gutenberg – Old Irish Glass by Mrs Graydon Stannus and looking for plate number XLIV which is in the Mrs Halls Collection.
