David Copperfield is the eighth novel by Charles Dickens. It was first published as a serial in 1849-50, and as a book in 1850. The novel features the character David Copperfield, It is his journey of change and growth from infancy to maturity, as people enter and leave his life and he passes through the stages of his development. It has been called his masterpiece, “the triumph of the art of Dickens”. Some elements of the novel follow events in Dickens’s own life and It was Dickens’s favourite among his own novels. In the preface to the 1867 edition, Dickens wrote, like many fond parents, I have in my heart of hearts a favourite child. And his name is David Copperfield. Uriah Heep is a fictional character created by Charles Dickens in his novel David Copperfield. Heep is one of the main antagonists of the novel. His character is notable for his cloying humility, obsequiousness, and insincerity, making frequent references to his own “‘umbleness”. His name has become synonymous with sycophancy. Royal Doulton was an English ceramic manufacturing company producing tableware and collectables, dating from 1815. Operating originally in London, its reputation grew in The Potteries, where it was a latecomer compared to Royal Crown Derby, Royal Worcester, Wedgwood, Spode and Mintons. Its products include dinnerware, giftware, cookware, porcelain, glassware, collectables, jewellery, linens, curtains and lighting. Three of its brands were Royal Doulton, Royal Albert and Mintons. These brands are now owned by WWRD Holdings Ltd (Waterford Crystal, Wedgwood, Royal Doulton), based in Barlaston near Stoke-on-Trent. On 2 July 2015 the acquisition of WWRD by the Finnish company Fiskars Corporation was completed. The Royal Doulton company began as a partnership between John Doulton, Martha Jones, and John Watts, with a factory in Lambeth London around 1815. Doulton products came to the attention of the Royal family. In 1901 King Edward VII granted the Burslem factory the Royal Warrant, allowing the business to adopt new markings and a new name, Royal Doulton. The company added products during the first half of the 20th century while manufacturing fashionable and high-quality bone china. The Lambeth factory closed in 1956 due to clean air regulations. Pearson & Son Ltd, a subsidiary of the Pearson industrial conglomerate acquired Doulton & Co. Pearson & Son owned Allied English Potteries and merged operations into Doulton & Co. All brands from Allied English Potteries and Doulton & Co. Including Royal Doulton, Minton, Beswick, Dunn Bennett, Booths, Colclough, Royal Albert, Royal Crown Derby, Paragon, Ridgway, Queen Anne, Royal Adderley and Royal Adderley Floral were moved under the umbrella of Royal Doulton. However in 2005 Waterford Wedgwood completed a takeover of Royal Doulton acquiring all assets and brands. In September 2005, the Nile Street factory also closed. Along with other Waterford Wedgwood companies, went into administration on 5 January 2009. Royal Doulton is now part of WWRD Holdings Ltd. Some items are now made in the parent company, WWRD Holdings Ltd in Barlaston, south of the Potteries Conurbation. Further production is carried out in abroad including Indonesia and Poland. On 2 July 2015 the acquisition of WWRD by Fiskars Corporation was completed including brands Waterford, Wedgwood, Royal Doulton, Royal Albert and Rogaska. The acquisition was approved by the US antitrust authorities.

RARE EARLY-MID 19TH CENTURY AME RI CAN ANTIQUE TOOLED, HAND-CUT, HAMMERED & SOLDERED HANGING TIN MATCH HOLDER, W/LOWER COMPARTMENT, DECORATED W/ BUNDLE OF WHEAT/6-POINTED. [Evidence previous mustard yellow painted surfaces]. Early-mid 19th century Ame ri can antique primitive hand tooled tinware & decorative metalware. 8″ Height x 5″ Width x 1 34 Depth. Found here in New England in southern New Hampshire. It remains as it was discovered in the southern New Hampshire 18th century, early post and chestnut beam barn, still hanging by an old plastered wall, where it had hung on an upright beam on a cut nail in a small room with a wood stove, earlier used as a workshop. It remains as it was found, with remnants and evidence of having been previously decorated with mustard yellow paint. It’s unclear if this painted surface had completely failed and was at some point dry-scrapped to reveal the hand tooled edges and especially the hand tooled image of the Star of David nestled among a bundle of wheat in the center of the tin match holder’s back wall. It’s perforated at the top with a drilled hole, where it was designed to hang on a nail on a wall or beam. The upper perimeter of the piece is hand cut and has a distinctive floral design profile, with hammered, tooled slots that were struck at an angle, populating its curvilinear edges. The interior of the back tin sidewall is decorated with a tooled, relaxed bundle of wheat grass with a distinctive and singular 6-pointed Star of David nestled among the stalks of wheat in the center. This no doubt was a reference to scripture and to the Old Testament, where scripture informed nearly every resident of late 18th and 19th century early New England and often decorative accessories, such as this, visually referenced scripture and in this case The Star of David, which much like the matches (strikes) it would have contained, would shed much needed spiritual light on their hard-scrabble, meager early New England, rural existences, especially in the trying, often disease ridden cold, winter months, where literally survival and not much else, was the primary concern. An early New England cultural artifact from pre-Civil War New Hampshire. Good to Very Good overall antique condition. 100% original antique condition. A contemporary of John Burt who designed and created a caster for David’s son William and his wife-to-be, must have been quite an honor! Northey has pieces at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, and the famous silver collection at Yale University. In addition, he was master to his children who became well-known silversmiths-a family of makers! The delicate shellback which remains largely intact as far as wear goes, makes this wonderful spoon special, indeed. It remains in good antique condition (see exceptions in the condition description) with age appropriate wear, and bears a monogram EC to the handle. This is certainly a collector’s find!
