Rare early vintage Herbert Terry Anglepoise Lamp 3 Step Base 1227 in Black. Made between 1935 to 1938. This came from an old workshop in Cornwall and is in as found condition. It is working but it would advisable to replace the old cord and bulb holder. All the bolts, screws, springs etc on this lamp are original with no replacements. The lamp holds its position well at a variety of angles. Please zoom in to study pictures carefully for best description. Will be packaged very carefully in a sturdy box. Early Herbert Terry Anglepoise Lamp Three 3 Step Base 1227 1935-38 Vintage Rare

An early, 3-step Anglepoise lamp by Herbert Terry & Sons. In mostly original condition, with its original red wrinkle paint on the base and shade. This is in’as found’ condition, I have not attempted any cleaning or restoration. Please note despite the lamp being in full working order, it has not been PAT tested. That will be solely up to the new owner to obtain one if required. Somebody, sometime, has rewired this with normal cabling, a plastic red switch and a modern bulb holder…. I was considering replacing all this with original parts, but I’m lacking the time.. The bulb holder is not properly attached to the shade, as shown in the last photo. It still works fine like this though. Some of the paint has flaked off the shade, as shown in photo #6. There is also paint loss, and some bubbling on the base – see photos #7 & 8. The bottom of the base is missing its felt cover. Please see photos for condition. Message me with any questions.. A very rare opportunity. This item is located in Ireland. Rare Pats Pending 2 Step Anglepoise 1227. Perforated Shade. Early Fork. Yellow

RARE 2 STEP ANGLEPOISE 1227 BY HERBERT TERRY & SONS. First edition of the 1227 2 Step (PATS PENDING). Dates from the late 1930s. 3 part fork with lower earth. The lamp is a shed find. As such the chrome arms, springs etc, were badly rusted. The lamp was been taken apart and cleaned. Removing the rust, has revealed that much of the chrome on the arms and fork has been lost. What remains, is peeling/flaking. The chrome could easily be removed if you wished. The lower, centre arm has a small hole in it (probably caused by corrosion). The paintwork is pale yellow in colour. There are a couple of chips to the paint on the shade, which reveals blue underneath. The yellow paint is aged and cracked. The shade has some chips/scuffs. Rusting/tarnishing to springs, bolts, spacers, etc. Fully working, but not currently PAT tested (advisable to get old lamps checked). Rewired with black, vintage flex and fitted with a chrome bulb holder. Earthed at the earthing point on the fork. Please be aware that, this is a vintage item and not perfect. EARLY 2 STEP ANGLEPOISE 1227 BY HERBERT TERRY & SONS. RARE BEIGE PAINTWORK WITH CHROME ARMS. TWO TIER SPRING BAR. THE PAINTWORK IS A LITTLE CHIPPED/SCUFFED/RUSTED IN PLACES. THE SHADE RETAINS ITS SHAPE, BUT HAS A COUPLE OF MINOR DENTS/CREASES, SEE PIC 12 AS AN EXAMPLE. THE CHROME ARMS, BOLTS AND BRACKETS ARE LIGHTLY TARNISHED/RUSTED. SOME AREAS OF CHROME LOSS ON THE ARMS (SEE PIC 11) AND BRACKET ETC. THE MID-ARM TENSIONING BOLT HAS BEEN REPLACED WITH A MODERN COPY. HOLDS ITS POSITION WELL. RARE EDITION ANGLEPOISE 1227 BY HERBERT TERRY & SONS. EARLY ARMS WITH MID-ARM TENSIONING BOLT. DATES FROM LATE 1930s TO EARLY 1940s. FULLY WORKING, BUT NOT CURRENTLY PAT TESTED (YOU ARE ADVISED TO GET IT CHECKED). REWIRED WITH 3 CORE VINTAGE FLEX. ORIGINAL CRABTREE BULB HOLDER IS RETAINED. THE LAMP IS FITTED WITH A VERY RARE BAKELITE SHADE (IN SUPERB CONDITION). BAKELITE WAS USED DURING THE INTER AND EARLY POST WAR YEARS, DUE TO METAL SHORTAGES. AS BAKELITE IS VERY FRAGILE, VERY FEW OF THESE SHADES SURVIVED. THE SHADE HAS NO CRACKS/SPLITS. THERE IS ONE SMALL SCRATCH ON THE REAR OF THE SHADE (SEE PIC 12). Rare Early Herbert Terry Anglepoise 1227 2 Step Black With Perforated Shade

Rare Herbert Terry 1227. This iconic lamp from the makers Herbert Terry and Sons has been restored with a focus on retaining its industrial heritage. Known as the model 1227, this is a highly sought after industrial lamp which is the archetypal of anglepoise. This particular version of the 1227 is a very early model that can be identified through its perforated shade and’wrinkled’ paintwork. This model was produced during the crossover period (which was in the year 1938) between the 3-step and 2-step base. Resultantly, this lamp feautres aspects from both models and is a highly sought after version. The 1227 dates back to the mid 20th century and the anglepoise design was originally created by George Carwardine, an engineer with a specialist background in vehicle suspension systems. As part of the restoration process for this lamp, it was necessary to have a complete electrical upgrade. This has been done using a braided fabric 3-core flex and a British 3-pin plug fitted with a 3-amp fuse. The lamp also comes complete with a low energy LED bulb. This lamp has been fully tested by a qualified electrician. Please note that this lamp does have a repair to the fork block that has been captured in the photos. This repair includes bracing to the fork block on both sides due to damage to one of the forks. The repair on bracing the forks is quality engineering that does not deter from the aesthetic or structural integrity.
