A rare Gottschalk antique dolls house circa 1885 no 2446. Please read the description carefully. When I bought this lovely house it had been repainted and papered many times. Exterior: The papers are worn having been covered with three layers of over painting. The woodwork has now been mostly repainted or enhanced as the original paint, apart from the roof, was almost non existent. The balcony and some of the window surrounds have been replaced as they were missing or wrong. One chimney is a replacement and I think the chimney pots have been added. The moulding in the middle of the dormer is missing as is one window glass. Interior: I removed seven layers of paper and paint to reveal the original papers. The floor papers are in pretty good condition apart from the smaller downstairs room where there are areas missing. The wall papers in the two upstairs rooms are in reasonable condition and very pretty. The downstairs papers are worn with missing patches particularly in the smaller room. The interior doors have been repainted. I have had many Gottschalk houses in the past but have never seen this one. It is far from pristine, however, considering the age and all the layers of over painting and papering, it is amazing that any original papers have been saved. The hard work has been done and the new owner can decide to leave as it is, do a little more tidying or do further restoration/renovation. It is a rare and early house and will look lovely when full of furniture. Please look carefully at the pictures as they form part of the description. The last photo is the house as I bought it. This is a handsome and well aged antique early Georgian lowboy which dates to the 1700s. It is a modestly sized piece of furniture, not particularly large or heavy, so perfect for a room with limited space. The lowboy has a fantastic amount of character and was found in a rural country house in South Devon. Figured walnut with pine lined drawers the lowboy has a central frieze drawer, shaped apron and flanking deep drawers. It is set on chamfered legs with slightly swept terminals and to the top the initials’B. S. G’ have been carved on the left hand side. The wood has a polished finish and is very well aged. The lowboy is generally in good structural condition having been checked over in our workshop, cosmetically there are many marks of age and use with various patch repairs to the veneer on the table top. There are old inactive woodworm holes to one side panel and one leg has been repaired. The handles are most certainly a later addition and the lock to the central drawer is a later replacement. This piece is well aged and pretty ancient looking, perfect if you love old, well aged furniture. The measurements are taken at the widest points. Here is a Beautiful & rare early Antique Oil Painting of the old Cliff House in San Fransisco California. Not completely sure when this painting was done but from looking at it, it appears antique and most likely period original from pre 1900.
