Rare Antique English Crystal & Silver Plate Snuff Bottle, Early 19th C

Here on offer is a rare antique English crystal & silver plate snuff bottle, dating to the early 19th c. This snuff box came from the Trevor Barton collection, a world renowned collector of tobacciana who died in 2008, he had been amassing the collection for more than fifty years. Trevor Barton received the rare honour of being inducted into the’Academie Internationale de la Pipe’. The taking of snuff became popular in Georgian England and there were strict rituals. The paraphernalia became a way of signalling wealth. The glass is beautifully clear with a faceted hobnail body and the neck has. Long faceted panels cut into it. The crystal body is fitted with a silver plated collar that has a snug fitting cap with an elaborate finial. Beneath the cap is a loose stopper with an. The glass body is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. The design of the silver plated cap is in excellent condition, the collar and spoon has degrees of wear (see photos). No other noted flaws. There are no maker marks. This gorgeous snuff bottle is offered in good antique condition, it measures approximately 9.5cm by 3.8cm. A wonderful rare collectable piece. This fantastic very heavy strong box is an early Tann box in great original condition from 11 newgate street where production of safes and strong boxes were made from 1888 to 1912. The numbers 25648 are engraved on the inside top of the door. This box is solid with only minimal surface rust and the door closes and locks effortlessly. It measures 14″ H x 14″ W x 18 L. In the sale today we have a Beautiful Victorian Console table. Made using Rosewood with Druce & Co London, badge underneath. Lovely turning to the legs and supports which are sturdy and strong. The Rosewood top has a wonderful grain, there is a small patch that is lifting. Please see last photo for a closer look at this. Small open joint to the top too. Some small pieces of veneer missing around the edge and some light marks to the top. Really beautiful table that is in great condition for its age/ use. Rare Charles Horner Sterling Silver Green Early Celluloid Bookmark 1912

A superb rare English solid sterling silver bookmark or page maker. It is hallmarked for Chester 1912 with the makers mark being that of Charles Horner (rubbed but just readable). It has been beautifully designed having a early green celluloid handle. It is in superb condition being free from digs splits chips and repairs, minute crack near the pin but its strong and stable with no wobbling. 3 inches (7.5cms) long by 0.75 inch (1.9cms) wide and weighs 2 grams. 7 3/4 inch tall. Amber-colored cylin der-shaped antique patent’quack’ bottle that o riginally contained a HEROIN LACED medicine. This is an ORIGINAL ANTIQUE hand B lown I nto M old bottle (BIM) with a tooled top, dating it back to the 1800’s. Bottle embossed : ” Glyco – Heroin /’SMITH’ “. Base of bottle embossed : MARTIN H. / CHEMISTS / NEW YORK. Condition : Bottle has some light patina and age wear, including a scrape along the back ridge of lip, as shown in last picture. Otherwise it is a good solid bottle in clean condition, as seen in the pictures. Age : An ORIGINAL ANTIQUE hand-blown bottle (Blown-In-Mold = BIM) with a tooled-top, ca. T hese bottle contained a patent medicine and one of the main ingredients in it was Heroin, Glyico Heroin. Heroin was used over a century ago as an ingredient in cough syrup, to suppress the cough and suppressing the discomfort that is associated with it. Yet it did much more than that as patients came to find out that they kept using the syrup long after the cough was gone. As they say,’Caution, may be habit forming’. To say the least! Heroin is one of the most addictive substances known to mankind. This is one of the very few antique bottles that we know of that actually has the word ” HEROIN ” embossed in the glass which makes it quite appealing. It is not a commonly found bottle and these are getting increasingly hard to f ind , especially in this PRISTINE CLEAN condition, check it out!
