Wonderful and rare antique French doll, Jumeau Triste Doll, on early French Composition Ball Jointed Body with straight wrists, 24 tall. She is known as the long face Jumeau, as she has a wistful expression. She was only made from. 1893 to 1898, by the French sculptor Carrier-Belleuse, as commissioned by Jumeau to make this very special doll. She wears a wonderful silk lined, wine red velvet & lace dress, with a bebe bonnet. She has a full slip and pantaloons with lace. She has all her fingers, Closed mouth, Incised on the back of her head is “11”. This Jumeau Triste is one of the most stunning examples of this rare and much sought after antique French doll. She has one of the most beautiful faces of this model. Her bisque head shows no chips or cracks. There is a restoration inside front top of head that is not visible outside of the face. There is a hairline inside top right of head that is not visible on the outside of the face. The body has been repainted. She has one earring, applied ears. She has fixed bulging brown eyes, silk stockings, leather shoes. A beautiful blond wig with long curls, marked in label 100% cheveux naturels. Made in France, 100 % human hair wig, and replaced cork pate. Amazing example of an early 1840s china doll on wooden body. She measures about 7.75 tall. You will get the clothes that she came in, which I carefully removed with a seam ripper. They were not in good condition, so I did not feel badly about taking them off to inspect her body. Her clothing appears a little later than she is from, probably from the late 19 century. I have not seen any damage to her China. On the back of her shoulderplate near the bottom, it appears that part of it is not completely glazed and is a little rougher. I dont think this is damage, but in original flaw. This is the first of this kind of doll Ive had with a China head, and her arms at the top where they meet the shoulder feel a little loose. Perhaps this is the way they were made. It does appear like there is part of the wood missing from her left buttock area, although this is not super noticeable. Here is a very early and special teddy bear from a private collection. Body feels to be a straw fill. Characteristics of Bing, and Steiff like feet and arms. Further study shows that the bear most resembles bears from the German company Kohler and Rosewald formed in 1909, in Nuremberg. Large glass eyes, original muzzle mouth and nose stitching. Bear is in good condition with some thinning to the mohair. Please see all photos they are accurate. Feel free to ask any questions. This is an exceedingly rare, highly sought after 19 908 model by Simon Halbig, made for the French Market circa 1885. Bisque socket head free from all chips, cracks or repairs and in superb condition. Very pale delicate complexion, dark icy blue inset glass eyes, thick dark eyeliner, painted lashes, feathered brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, slightly-parted lips, two square-cut upper teeth, one square-cut lower tooth, pierced ears with pearl earrings, luxurious antique ash blonde mohair wig w/ extensions (sparse in the back crown area covered by bonnet), original early composition and wooden body near mint with desirable straight wrist. Dressed in an antique factory original presentation chemise that fits as if it were made for her, bonnet, pantaloons, silk blend blue shoes and socks. Marks: S 11 H 908. Value Points: very rare early model with beautiful pale bisque contrasting with the dark blue wrap-around eyes, wonderful costume and wig.
