RARE Set 6 Antique Georgian/Early Victorian Beadwork Doilies/Doily/Table Mats
This is a superb rare set of 6 antique doilies/dressing table mats comprising of one large oval mat and five smaller round mats. The beadwork is incorporated into a fine cotton/linen crochet doily. The previous owner advises that these were appraised by Eric Knowles at an antiques valuation day and he suggested they may be Georgian or early Victorian. In fabulous condition for age with no obvious damage to the beadwork and no major staining only gentle signs of soiling from years of dust. As with all vintage linens please expect there may be other more minor signs of wear and the odd missing bead/broken thread. The large doily measures approx. 18″ x 15″ and the smaller ones approx. 17 Rare Early LIMBACH Annoyed Character Face Doll Antique German Bisque-Head
17 Rare Early Cabinet Doll. With “Annoyed” Character Face. Original Antique Doll – Made in Germany. Bisque Head / Composition Body – Stands Approx. Marked (faintly): “Crown & Clover / L-1772 / Limbach”. Hard to Find and Displays Beautifully. This early Limbach cabinet character doll — with the distinctive eyebrows and “annoyed” facial expression — is quite rare. She is faintly impressed with the Limbach Porzellanfabrik markings: a crown, the three-leaf clover with “L” and “1772” in the leaves, and the name “Limbach” underneath it. There also appears to be a letter or number above the crown, but it is hard to make out. She has superb face painting, a lovely open mouth with teeth, and “annoyed” squinty eyes with frowning eyebrows. Her ears are not pierced. She has a very nice auburn French human-hair wig (marked “100% cheveux”) that further enhances her fiery demeanor. She is in her very old antique velvet dress, which has age issues noticeable on examination (melting, repairs — see below for details), but it just looks so perfect on her that I did not want to change it out. She also has a slip and pantaloons, as well as vintage shoes and socks. Note: Photo props not included: FRAMED PICTURE. Beautiful antique condition — from a non-smoking environment. No issues found with the bisque after careful examination. Her antique velvet dress is extremely fragile, with a bit of age fading, “melting, ” and repairs on the inside surface. These issues can be seen on close examination. See final two photos. IMPORTANT: Besides the noteworthy issues mentioned above, EXPECT any antique doll (bisque/composition/leather/china/wood) to ALSO have: (1) SIGNS OF AGE – for example: toned/crazed/chipped composition, minor wig pulls, loss of “hair” lashes on bisque heads, not-so-tight stringing, etc. (2) MINOR CONSERVATION WORK by previous owners/collectors – for example: reset eyes in most cases! , repairs to wig, repairs to clothing, touch-ups on composition/finish/paint, etc. Any MAJOR issues — hairline crack, total repaint, etc. – would be itemized above, but these normal age/conservation details are not. They are to be expected. I’LL BE GLAD TO ANSWER. Provided it’s rated the same (or faster) than the service you chose. If you live in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Israel, Japan, Netherlands, Norway, or U. Message me to see whether there may be a cheaper alternative using Priority Post — depending on the size and value of your parcel. And provided the items can travel safely in the same box. WHAT, NOTHING TO COMBINE! ? (opens in a separate window/tab)… Where you’ll find more top-quality antiques/collectibles/artwork/dolls/and more! Significantly not as described: A. Flaw or discrepancy vs. What was stated in the listing. As often happens, it’s the few bad apples out there who ruin it for the rest of us. Not knowing what they’re doing. And then, when they realize they’ve ruined the doll, they return it saying it was defective. BUT HAVING SAID ALL THAT.. I do bend over backwards, attempting to disclose any noteworthy condition issues I can find or think of. But these are antique and vintage dolls — so, please understand that they won’t be in brand-new condition. There will always be some minor indication of their age, and it would be impossible to itemize every single pinhead-size stain on the outfit, or hairline scratch on the body. Please expect these types of conditions with old dolls. IT CONTAINS VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION. Rare Antique Persian Bedouin Islamic Astrolabe Circa Early 1700s
Offered for sale is this outstanding antique original brass Persian Islamic Bedouin Astrolabe, being 5 1/2 in diameter, signed by the maker, with Arabic and Zodiac engraving all over the front and back of this instrument. We believe the circa to be early 17th centaury. This old astrolabe is guaranteed to be an authentic antique. Astrolabes are dated at 570 AD to coincide with the birth of Mohamad which was 570 AD. This astrolabe is guaranteed to be an authentic antique. Alert: Please be aware that many of the scientific instruments offered for sale are reproductions made by India for export. This instrument is a genuine antique! Historically, each Bedouin Tribe Master had one of these astrolabes to help him navigate either on land (at night) or in water. The tribe master looked up at the stars for the big dipper. After finding the big dipper, he followed the handle which pointed to the north star. Having found the north star, he then knew which way was north. He always used the instrument at night because it was too hot during the day, and the big dipper and the north star was not visible during daylight hours. The Persian Astrolabe is a historical astronomical instrument used by classical astronomers and astrologers. Brass astrolabes were developed in much of the eastern world, chiefly as an aid to navigation and as a way of finding the qibla, the direction of Mecca. In the Islamic world, astrolabes were used to find the times of sunrise and the rising of fixed stars, to help schedule morning prayers. It was the chief navigational instrument until the invention of the compass and sextant. Its many uses included locating and predicting the positions of the sun, moon, planets and stars; determining local time given the local longitude and vice-versa; surveying, and triangulation. Astrologers of European nations used astrolabes to construct horoscopes. In the Islamic world, they are and were used primarily for astronomical studies, though astrology was often involved there as well. The astrolabe was introduced to the Islamic world the mid-eighth century. The astrolabe was fully developed during the early centuries of Islam. Arab treatises on the astrolabe were published in the ninth century and indicate a long familiarity with the instrument (the oldest existing instruments are Arabic from the tenth century, and there are nearly 40 instruments from the 11th and 12th centuries). The astrolabe was inherently valuable in Islam because of its ability to determine the astronomically defined prayer times and as an aid in finding the direction to Mecca (the qibla). It must also be noted that astrology was a deeply imbedded element of early Islamic culture and astrology was one of the principle uses of the astrolabe. Many old astrolabes had astrological features that would allow the user to determine horoscopes. Creating a horoscope requires knowledge of the positions of the planets and the ecliptic for a certain date and time. The astrologer interprets the aspects to advise his client. The astrolabe was a convenient way to determine a horoscope because much astrological stress was placed on the position of the ecliptic. Of particular interest were the ecliptic degree on the eastern horizon (the ascendant), the ecliptic degree on the western horizon (the descendent) and the ecliptic degree on the meridian (the degree of mid-heaven). In use, the astrolabe is set to the time and date of interest birth, death, coronation, etc. And the ecliptic degrees are read directly. The astrolabe could be used to find the “house” occupied by a planet, but an ephemeris was required to find the planetary coordinates for a date. Provenance: Christies, May, 1987: From a private estate. This is a genuine antique! . Remember – Fake news and fake antiques are fakes! This instrument is guaranteed to be an antique original not a reproduction! Tomlinson:’Instruments of Navigation, London, 1958. Of European Scientific Instruments in the Dept. Of Medieval & Later Antiquities of the British Museum, London. Astrolabes of the World, Robert T. Gunther, The Holland Press. Please look at the pictures and read the description, which form a part of the condition description. This product would make a wonderful addition to any scientific instrument, astrolabe or sundial collection when displayed in a prominent place, being a grand collectible item that would adorn any serious collector’s prized scientific instrument and sundial accumulations, while showing a discriminating dedication for fine sundials and other scientific instrument items as well as a devotion to acquiring fine collectibles.
