A very rare early French antique solid sterling silver wine taster. It is hallmarked with the French charge and discharge marks for 1768 – 1774, pre French Revolution. It has been superbly made having a scroll handle and engraved initials. It is in good condition for its age being free from splits and repairs, there are a few slight dinks to the raised decoration and one tiny pin hole – see final photo (worth getting sorted on such a rare piece). It is nice and clean inside. 4 inches (10cm) wide including the handle by 3.25 inches (8cm) excluding it by 1 inch (2.6cm) tall to the top of the handle and and weighs 84 grams. The Billiken is an early 20th century mascot invented by artist Florence Pritz intended to bring luck, happiness, and well wishes to all who cross the fellow’s path. The Billiken is a small, squat character that sits with closed eyes and large grin. There were little tokens and dolls of the Billiken everywhere and he even graced the side of household items like a wine bottle coaster. These phrases could also refer to wine! The wine coaster has a wooden bottom, was cast by the Queen City Silver Co, can double as nifty trinket dish, and is in great, preowned condition. RARE, Museum Pewter Water Bottle. This is a rare, early 19. Century English pewter water bottle. A similar/identical example is pictured in the reference: Pewter at the Victoria & Albert Museum, p. The bottom of this bottle has the inventory label LPH78.2 from the London Towne Publik House Museum (Edgewater, Maryland) when it was on exhibit for over thirty years.
