Found in a very important photographers estate in Clearwater Florida this was with other cabinet cards and cards in folders. I have no way to date this specifically I’m guessing it is probably from the 20s or 30s. The condition is nearly pristine. The photo measures approximately 3 1/2 x 6 and the folder it is in is a little bit bigger. No documentation was found. Photographer for the city of Clearwater for over half a century. Also a Navy enlisted photographer during WW2. After cleaning out the residence & studio in 2014, we have been sorting through over 100,000 photographs for the last 10 years, and are finally offering some of the best ones up for sale individually. We hope to Bring recognition to his life’s work as well as to find homes for some parts of the history of an entire city as documented by the city photographer. Parts of the collection are being held together by the estate for exhibition purposes in the future. Holding a piece from this collection will be rare. Much of the contents from the estate were taken by the historical society before we were asked to go inside. The photographs we hold from this estate, include everything you would’ve expected a city photographer to have been present for; from weddings, to new construction, aerial photographs, sporting events, school events, press photography, police, Jaycees, and a really nice, but VERY LIMITED collection of nude photographs, some from a nudist camp that was in operation here in the 40s and 50s. Even more limited, there were a handful of his war era photographs that we were able to save. The photos that are being offered here, were well preserved, found inside the home and studio, in a cool, dry, cellar type setting. George did a lot of work for the newspapers so you’ll see things pertaining to Clearwater Florida, much of it from the early 1950s. Being in the same location next to the Clearwater courthouse for over half a century, he was also entrusted with and gifted many photographs that go back to the late 1800s that were left behind and are currently in our collection. Some of those will be offered here as well. This is quite a project for only two curators, so please follow us, and be patient as we slowly unveil the contents of this massive estate. Old English or German 4/4 violin. A (Pie crust) violin measuring 23 1/2″ x 8″. Genuine inlaid perfling (to install that alone must have been mind-bending). F- holes are gondala shaped. Arching rises sharpely at the edges snd flattens. Ready to play with a chinrest and strings of your choosing. It bears a label: Hohner Copy of Stradivari Made in Germany. The Hohner Violin Company made violins in the later 1800s. This violin looks older and it is my opinion that the violin was made in the early 1800s. This violin has what looks like a grafted neck but it is a repair to the peg box and scroll done professionally and holding well. It is a well made violin with thinner edge work than most German violins usually have. Thin edges are usually an Italian trait as well as a 14 inch back which this violin has! Many German violins have 14 1/4 inches on the back. This violin has a 3 inch repaired crack on the table (top) which is pictured off the left f hole… But not on the soundpost or bassbar. The rest of the violin is in excellent condition. There are the usual scratches, scuffs and scrapes to the varnish one would expect from a violin of this age. The pegs match and work fine. The instrument is playable with the old strings. This violin would be good for orchestral or chamber music. The wood is tight fine grain spruce on the table and nice flamed maple on the ribs, back, neck. I believe it is worth every penny of that. NOW YOU CAN OWN IT FOR LESS! The violin comes WITHOUT BOW. 27 1/2 long is this original antique stamp signed LUPOT REX PROFESSIONAL violin bow. Frog consist of solid ebony, with mop inlaid eye to go along with the bottom strap and the adjuster knob. Notice the sharp bend to the tip, and the chamfered transfer from tip to shaft. I would say a 3/4 bow women or adolescent size? Needs to be restrung and obviously cleaned (rosin residue on frog and shaft) , for it is as I found it from an old Adirondack lodge Estate. Stamped Germany, for some reason Gretsch comes to my mind?
