Up for sale is a very rare antique steel and brass compass tool made the first half of the 19th century. It’s completely forged by hand out of solid steel with lovely detailing and has acquired a lovely patina from age. It’s in good antique condition and measures 6 inches long. On offer is this extremely rare, pair of antique French. The base has the convex design – this one being the’flaming grenade’ (associated with the sapeurs-pompiers/firemen) and the words’École Speciale Militaire’ – whilst the top has the convex (opposite to the base). Used to make buttons, the material (brass, copper, silver etc) would be left with a repousse version of the design. When in place exactly, they sit together perfectly. Nice and unusual decorative item / paperweight etc. Total height of 8.3cm. Raw unpackaged weight of 450g, will be over 500g safely posted. In excellent antique condition.

A beautifully made Antique Cut Steel Brooch in the form of a key. The multi-faceted cut steel studs that make up the Brooch would have sparkled wonderfully in the candlelight of a ballroom and stood out in the dark. This brooch is made up of four different shapes of stud. Cut steel jewellery was at the height of fashion in the 19th century and was very desirable both here in England and in Europe. Often made in Woodstock in Oxfordshire. Measures 5cm just under 2 long including the pin which extends slightly beyond the key. In excellent antique condition. Such an amazing survivor to have lasted this long!
