Very rare 23 Sophia Smith hairstyle China doll by Kestner. Dates from the early 1850s. She has an antique body and is wearing an antique coat dress, which is roughly from the same period within about 20 years. Please know that there is a repair to one side of her shoulderplate. Thankfully, this does not affect her beautiful face. Her dress is in remarkably good condition for the age. I love the fabric and the details. It lacks enclosures and needs to be pinned. Her body does not have any leakage. It is antique but not original to the head. Definitely appropriate and fits her well. Angie: This is a rare early 18 inch Kestner with the mark J or F on the perfect head, a turned head. The sleep eyes work beautifully and are brown, pink lids are so sweet; the shoulder head is in perfect shape with no chips cracks or rubs on the doll. She is named Angie on the tag is from 1880’s but most likely made in the late 1890’s with a lovely original good condition kid leather body that has working joints with no leaks, the doll is fully dressed in four layers of fine lace, batiste, and silk. She has on hand made leather kid boots and possesses tiny buttons 4 of them. The sweet doll has silk stockings and a lace bonnet which is enchanting. The underdress is all hand made as is the silk afternoon walking coat dress. A perfect doll for the discriminating doll collector. I love the style of the dress too, with the piping running down each side and all the lace, such perfection. Rare sweet 12 all bisque Kestner character baby doll with glass eyes and marked only 7 on the lower bottom of solid dome head. Baby could be boy or girl baby. The bisque head is in nice condition, blue glass set eyes and an open closed mouth with painted tongue. The baby has a rub at the neck and has a small blemish to the right cheek. Kestner baby is dressed in antique cotton diaper, old slip and sweet antique cotton Baptismal gown and lace bonnet with ribbons. The all bisque body is so detailed with the blushed joints and fat bulges on her body, arms and legs. The bisque torso has no damage, the right arm has no damage, the left arm does have fingers chipped and her bent elbow was repaired, hard to see. Her right leg has no chips or cracks, her left leg has had her inner joint repaired with cork to string her. Both bisque feet have rubs to the bisque. She has some flaws but is so rare to have an 12 early all bisque Kestner baby with glass eyes! Please let me know if you need more photos. Little Miss Muffet Has Learned to Share! – Here you have a darling rare, early 9 Kestner 169 child, with closed mouth, on a fully-jointed composition body with straight wrists. Her bisque head is marked only with a “C”, the mold number 169, “Made in Germany, ” and what may be another “C” on the left (though it is faint). She has a lovely face, with bright blue glass paperweight (stationary) eyes. Her body in excellent original condition, with her original and beautiful full blond wig. After extensive research, I found that this doll is extremely rare and almost impossible to find, especially in great condition like this one. And she’s from a fine, reputable collection. She comes dressed in a Little Miss Muffet outfit, with her tuffet seat, an oh-so-cute felted spider, 2 bowls of “curds and whey, ” and two spoons… Because, of course, she has learned to share! Here we have another special girl. She’s 19 and precious! Her mama and papa cry strings STILL WORK (see pic). When you pull on the strings she cries! She was a playmate of orig owner. We have NOT removed her wig to check for cracks and do not want to do so just for pics. But what we can see there are not any. She’s wearing a pretty peach organza dress, slip, pantaloons, socks and shoes and one earring. And an adorable straw hat with a peach ribbon and feather to match her dress. Exactly how she came to us many years ago. She has a ball jointed wooden body and is jointed at her wrists, elbows and knees. Her body seems to have been repainted but if so, this was done many, many years ago. Her left wrist does not move do to repainting but all other joints are working great. Opened mouth, teeth, thick eyebrows, long lashes, beautiful blue SLEEP eyes and pierced ears. All tags etc will be included in sale. 9 Rare Early Kestner #169. AS “LITTLE MISS MUFFET”. Fully Jointed Cabinet Doll. From the Mary Ann Hall Collection. Original Antique Doll – Made in Germany. Little Miss Muffet sat on a tuffet, Eating her curds and whey; Along came a spider, who sat down beside her… And she convinced the dear spider to stay! Mary Ann only collected the very best dolls. Little Miss Muffet Has Learned to Share! – Here you have a darling rare, early 9 Kestner 169 child, with closed mouth, on a fully-jointed composition body with straight wrists. Her bisque head is marked only with a “C”, the mold number 169, “Made in Germany, ” and what may be another “C” on the left (though it is faint). She has a lovely face, with bright blue glass paperweight (stationary) eyes. Her body in excellent original condition, with her original and beautiful full blond wig. After extensive research, I found that this doll is extremely rare and almost impossible to find, especially in great condition like this one. And she’s from a fine, reputable collection. She comes dressed in a Little Miss Muffet outfit, with her tuffet seat, an oh-so-cute felted spider, 2 bowls of “curds and whey, ” and two spoons… Because, of course, she has learned to share! Beautiful antique condition — from a non-smoking environment. No issues noticed on the bisque after careful examination. IMPORTANT: Besides the noteworthy issues mentioned above, EXPECT any antique doll (bisque/composition/leather/china/wood) to ALSO have: (1) SIGNS OF AGE – for example: toned/crazed/chipped composition, minor wig pulls, loss of “hair” lashes on bisque heads (if they had them), not-so-tight stringing, etc. (2) MINOR CONSERVATION WORK by previous owners/collectors – for example: reset eyes in most cases! , repairs to wig, repairs to clothing, touch-ups on composition/finish/paint, etc. Any MAJOR issues — hairline crack, total repaint, etc. – would be itemized above, but these normal age/conservation details are not.
