RARE Early 1900s Antique Homer Laughlin Art China Specialties Orange Bowl Centerpiece – Decorated by Oakwood China – Special Wood Grain Pattern 11-½ across with handles. RARE find here – when will you get another chance collectors?? 1900s Orange Bowl from Homer Laughlin Art China Specialties which was then decorated with the special wood grain technique by Oakwood China. This bowl has a very nice lighter wood grain design with the Oakwood technique. Scalloped edge footed orange bowl in brown and gold tones. Measures 11-1/2″ in diameter, 4 1/4″ tall. In the early 1900s, many American pottery companies started to produce decorated specialties. The specialties” were made up of shapes that didn’t belong to any particular dinnerware line, and were intended to be more decorative with fancy and ornamental styling. Most of the treatments consisted of colorful decals with blended tints. The Homer Laughlin China Company started their line of Art China in 1902 under the direction of Arthur Mountford. The special “Laughlin Art China” gold marking was applied over the glaze and wasn’t always used. It appears mainly on Currant, White Pets, Monks, Gypsy, Juno, Laughlin Blue, Ruby, as well as several other patterns. Oakwood China was in business from 1912 – ca. Another wonderful link to the history of East Liverpool! Condition: Excellent antique condition and example piece. No chips, cracks, or crazing. Some glaze misses or skips on the decorated piece – very hard to see when on display, noted for accuracy. Piece may have small factory production imperfections such as sand bumps, glaze skips, glaze pops, etc. Little to no issues with this piece. See photos for details. [Found untouched & covered with dust and silt in an early southern New Hampshire post and beam center chimney cape with attached barn]. Early to mid 19th century Ame ri can antique New England primitive vinegar grain painted wooden furniture & decorative wooden accessories. 17 3/4″ Length x 11 3/4″ Height x. Without its original hinged lid but with exceptional, early corner large, hand-cut dovetailed joinery. Unfortunately, at some previous juncture, someone took a hand scraper or hand plane and removed some of the paint decoration on the dovetailed areas of both painted short sidewalls. The painted front sidewall remains largely intact but is now missing its original metal, keyed lid locking hardware. One of the handcrafted iron, looped pin hinges that would have held the lid in place at the rear is still present, as is one of the affixed side leather lifting/carrying handles. No attempt has been made to replace the lid with another or to’in-paint’ the areas of missing paint where a less-informed soul removed some of the original and now nearly 200 year-old paint decoration on its corners. The real story here though is with its vinegar grain painted exterior, with its exuberant, lovely, squiggly vertical brush strokes that resemble a mop dipped in green paint and dragged right and left down its sidewalls over an ochre background. Still with its original period paper wallpaper lining its interior and still largely intact, although with some minor to moderate staining in places. 100% original and untouched. An extraordinary, genuine, early to mid 19th century Ame ri can Folk Art artifact and example of early New England primitive painted furniture and paint decorated wooden accessories. It may not be 100% intact or perfect but it remains largely untouched and an honest, now nearly 200 year old New England primitive artifact. Almost as old as dirt. Found in southern New Hampshire. RARE EARLY to MID 19TH CENTURY AME RI CAN FOLK ART ANTIQUE NEW ENGLAND PRIMITIVE VINEGAR GRAIN PAINTED, featuring SGRAFFITO COMBED SURFACES, DECORATED HANGING WOODEN WALL SHELF, with WALL FASTENER HOLE on BACKPLATE & SCALLOPED FRONT TRAY FACEPLATE, with REPEATING SWAG MOTIF REALIZED with PAINT COMBS. 7 ¾” Length x 3″ back Height x 1 ½” front Height x 4″ Depth. Offered for your review and consideration is this very early New England primitive, vinegar grain painted, with a combed, repeating swag motif, early 19th century Ame ri can antique carved pine hanging wall shelf in old nut brown color and naturally aged patina. The shelf’s absolutely 100% untouched and remains as it was found in the early New Hampshire farmhouse it was originally removed from. The wooden shelf has a swagged front plate which echoes the repeating combed swag painted decorative motif. The shelf’s backplate rises in the rear with a slight cove in its middle and also features not one but two carved out fastener holes, one large and one small. This rare and now very scarce, early 19th century piece of early Ame ri can antique New England painted furniture and decorated wooden accessories, is particularly early, dating from somewhere between 1820 to 1845 and now being close to, if not, 200 years old. It has nice and tight shallow sidewalls and a wood plank bottom. Honest, authentic and 100% original. An extraordinary early Ame ri can primitive artifact. Unbastardized and as right as rain.
